Best Brand?
Best Brand?
I have a stock stereo, but, I want really good speakers in my car. I wanna keep my stock stereo though. Whats the BEST brand out there?? Im not looking into a sub or an amp or anything useless like that, just really good speakers.
Thanks!
Thanks!
um..
stock stereo + really good speakers = not a good combination...
best brand for speakers? depends.....i heard that Infiniti Kappa is considered one of the best....
and um....sub or amp is not useless....they make a huge difference....
FYI, aftermarket unit + stock speakers = best bang for ur buck.....aftermarket HU makes a huge difference in sound quality....
FYI, aftermarket unit is easier to DIY compared to DIY aftermarket speakers.....that's IMO. =)

Any how, Amps and subs aren't useless. and a HU will help a lot. But, I think we really need to know how much you want to spend. If you're determined not to amp or install subs, that'll help in finding a nice efficient set of speakers.

Well, I was thinking of just keeping my stock stereo because i had a Clarion 945MP, but, someone decided to steal it. Im not looking for an complete system. Just, some good-bomb-*** speakers. Im not into the whole "bumping music" thing.
Oh, and I dont care for price. This is for my birthday.

Good Luck!
Where can I get some of these Infiniti Kappa speakers? Online store or something? I guess I have no other choice but to get a sub and an amp. I was thinking JL Audio for the amp and Infiniti for the Sub? No?

Hmm... not amping replacements. That'd really be for naught. Components are made to run off of an amp. They weren't designed to be ran off the 4-12 watts rms you're gonna get coming off the HU. The best thing for running a stock hu, and no amps? Stock speakers. If you would want to amp them, and wanted more highs than mids (frequencies) then, infiniti's would be a good choice for you, as they leave some to be desired in the midrange area. If you're wanting mids over highs, then the infinity's wouldn't be that great of choice. If you wanted to add both mids and highs, Infinity tweeters paired with a different mid (6.5) would be better for you. Something such as an Adire Koda mid driver (which is better suited to add midbass to your overall sound), or something such as the resonant engineering mids, coupled with a smooth tweet that has the ability to get higher (infinity, planet audio, etc.). Also, if you're going to amp them, crossovers would help in further filtering the frequencies that get to your speakers (every component set I've ever seen comes with crossovers, but you can buy seperates should the ones that come with them not fit your listening tastes). As for adding a sub and amp, from reading, it seems like you are an sq guy. Meaning that you value sound quality over spl type bass. Something such as a single 10 or a pair of 8's sounds more along the lines of what you're looking for. I'd say get a small, clean amp and either a single 10 or dual 8's. Some companies I'd loko into for the subs would be those such as JL Audio, Image Dynamics, Diamond Audio,Treo Engineering. The JL's are renowned for their sq (especially the higher end lines such as the W7 or W6 (and W6v2) lines. The w3 line is also a good line from them to look into, esoecially if you're on a more limited budget. The IDQ line from image dynamics are also good for sq type setups, for the more budget friendly version. They are also now making their IDMAX line in a 10, which could be comparable to the W6 and W7 line from JL, yet again, on a more budget friendly price range.

And Sukit, don't get your heart set on Infiniti Kappas just because two people on a random message board have heard that they are "considered one of the best"... Do a little more research (searching on Google Groups is very useful) and come up with a bunch of speakers that look good. Listen to some in your local car audio shop. Then come back here and ask about specific models.
(FWIW Infiniti Kappas are fine, but there are lots of other good (or better, or cheaper) speakers out there you might prefer. And if you are buying a sub, you really shouldn't be worried about whether your speakers produce "soo much bass.")
Last thing -- I'd say the most important thing would be to get some decent, amped speakers in your car. You definitely don't need a sub. I'd consider a sub less important than good (again, amped) speakers. But others may disagree...

Alpine F#1 Status speakers and Phoenix Gold Titanium Elite are among the best of the best of the best but you are never going to pay the $1000+ for those I am guessing
I don't necessarily think a sub is necessary, if you get a halfway decent amp for good components, they should have enough bass, and you can hide the amplifier under a seat or under your stock trunk floor. I hear JLs components have pretty good bass for 6.5s
I have Polk speakers all around and I love them. They are amped though. 6x9s in the rear and 6.5's in the front door. They produce good overall range when amped. Obviously they won't produce the true lows you'll get from a sub, but still good.
And you don't have to think of a SUB as a bad thing. Do you have a home theater system at your house, or listened to one at best buy or something? You know those little stands they set up, so you can hear the surround. Well, next time you go, start the demo thing up, and then shut off the sub. The audio will still sound fine, but you'll lose out on the full range of the audio.
Just because you buy a sub, doesn't mean you have to pound going down the street like some people do.

Ok, a lot of people are probably reading this post learning what they need to do now. So let's get specific shall we?
Please tell us what we need regarding...
Front Speakers, Rears, Sub and Amp!
Front Speakers - Best sound for the money. Remember, some of us don't have 8-9k to spend on audio!
Rears - list some choices for both 6.5" and 6x9". Again, best bang for the buck! Also, should our rears play as loud as our fronts?
Sub: The most obvious choice seems like 10", or even two 8" subs. What is a good price range and max watts we should look at?
Amp - 4-channel? 2-channel? What? Also, since most agree to amp the front and rear speakers as well, give details on what we need. Just one single muti-channel amp to power everything, or two seperate amps?
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND...! Some of us don't have a lot of money to play with here so instead of trying to impress us with things way out of budget, why not list some reasonable choices that most folks can afford. I doubt most of us here are audiophiles. We just need a good system that sounds better than factory.
Oh yea, links...links....links....links....! Please provide them if you can. If you know where a product is you are talking about then post a link! Some people here, including myself never even heard of some of the brands mentioned so links would be awesome.

And here is my personal opinion:
- There are lots of good speakers out there. I'm not willing to give you list of them all, nor do I even know them all. Search and read stuff, that's how I got speakers I like. You can't ask a general question like "what's a good speaker" and get any reasonable reply. Anyone with any knowledge isn't going to bother replying, because it's a pointless question, and everyone else is just going to tell you to get whatever speakers they have because they like them. Look stuff up for yourself and ask specific questions, and you will get better replies.
- As far as upgrading, I would first upgrade to a decent 2-channel amp and some good front speakers. I would then add a sub and an amp for that if I had more money. Maybe combine them all and get a 4-channel instead of separate amps if you need to save money but still want a sub. I wouldn't bother with rears. I keep them off in my car. This is assuming you want to spend as little as possible.
