opinions/advice needed on speakers

so im out on the market looking for new front speakers. i want to hear I.C.E pro's opinions and/or suggestions that might suit me best. now first i want to know if 6 1/2" is the correct size for the front speakers? i have some sort of polk component set up front with a wood circle block as a spacer to make it fit. eventually, weeks later it dies out due to poor wiring?

im looking for a set of front speakers that performs best at low tone levels since i listen to hip-hop/rap music. im leaning towards the $70 catergory for best bang for the buck speakers. in the future, i might amplify it as soon im done choosing front and rear speakers. so what 6.5" front speakers sound best for hiphop/rap type music? i want something that pushes hard enough to vibrate my legs at least

as for rears, im thinking about the JBL gto's 6x9 that i've seen on eBay that go for like $30+. dont remember the model but i know their jbl's 6x9's.

so all you audio heads out their, help me out and recommend me to some sites/speakers/information/suggestions!

thanks

Yes, 6.5" speakers are int he front doors.

Alpine Type-S (SPS-171A) components are a good choice for installation in a 7th Gen as they include adapters for the front doors to make them fit properly, so they are a snap to install. I don't think they are overly expensive, at the very least they shouldn't be out of anybody's price range.

If you choose to go with 6.5" coaxials, then you will most likely need some kind of spacer as the way the doors are configured doesn't allow for a very deep 6x9. Wood spacers should not have anything to do with anything, but bad wiring will cause problems of course.

JBL GTO's are not very good, just remember you get what you pay for!

hmm i see the alpine is an component set. since i already have tweeters from my polk component set, does alpine make any other quality speakers?

i chose jbl gtos for rears because of the fitment. i heard some 6x9 wont fit the rear deck because its too large of depth*. so thats why i choose the jbl gtos over the kappas and other ones since it produces most watts =|. since jbl arent so good, any 6x9 rear speakers that'd fit my 03 coupe you can recommend?
btw thanks for the info =D

Alpine makes Type-R and Type-X which are more expensive, the Type-S is the cheapest line.

I used Pioneer 3-way 6x9's for the rear, I already had them before hand so it wasn't much of a choice, it was just what I had already. They fit without and problems, the magnets sit quite a bit lower than stock, but they fit find and I still have a wee little bit of clearance.

Don't go for something just because of power handling, because in reality it means nothing, especially on deck power..

Go to a few audio stores and listen to what you like. From the audio store you get a better idea of what the tweeter sounds like then the woofer in-car, because mids are more enclosure dependent. A better thing to do is to listen to what your friends have in their cars and see what you like.

Hmm... wants good midbass, under $70. Let me browse around a little. I take it you like the response for the polk tweets, as you say you don't need to replace them. I'd say go for some Adire Audio Koda's, but I don't know where you might get them, other than Ebay and used with no warranty, for that price. I'll look around some more.

bump

k, i decided to fix the wiring problem on the front speakers and now im still debating on the rear 6x9's. now i visited crutchfield.com and typed in my car information, only 6x9 speaker avaible for my coupe was the rockfords. i know theirs MANY choices for a rear set of speakers for our cars, so if possible, can anyone hand me down a list of what WILL fit my 2003 coupe for sure? or even just post what 6x9 would satisfy me..

price range: $80 at most.
btw, i plan to amp all 4 as soon i get some 6x9's.

oh yeah, almost forgot... im running an pioneer deh-4400 deck. i think it says mofset 50wx4 on the face plate. cant remember

what you guys think about these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

I wouldn't bother with rears. Most people here don't use em (well the guys going for SQ setups anyway). Get an amp on those fronts. It will make a world of difference.

if i amp the front, the sound balance would be way off.

my goal is to replace the factory 6x9 with speakers that will hit hard and loud and even louder/harder with an amp. but it seems hard since theirs not much of an selection due to the depth size of the rear deck. =|

What sound balance? There is no separate front and rear channel in music like there is right and left.

the fronts would be much louder over the rear speakers. im trying to even it out so volume goes out thru all 4 speakers evenly.

Ok... Why do you want all four speakers at the same level? That's just going to make it sound like the music is coming from somewhere behind you... I can't see how this could possibly be desirable.

There really is no need for rear speakers if you have a good pair of fronts. Adding more speakers does not increase SQ. In fact, it can easily decrease it because of all the extra waves bouncing around. Plus, with just amped fronts, the sound will be coming from in front of you (where you want to hear the music), instead of from behind you.

Even if you buy rear speakers, which I wouldn't suggest given your budget, I still would recommend keeping the rears at a lower volume.

I'm highly considering getting these Alpine Type-S 6.5 component speakers but I have a question about installation before I buy them.

What is all involved in terms of running new wires, mounting the x-over or cutting holes? Oh, and I will be powering them with my Alpine 9833 for now and maybe getting an amp in the future. Thanks for your time.

The fronts louder than the rears is what you want. You know how the band on stage at a concert stands in front of you . . . That being said, the advice about going to a store to listen is about the best you'll get. Take a rap cd with you that you like, and plop it in a similar headunit in the sound room and sample some different speakers. Try not to kill yourself over rears, actually the stock 6x9s should be fine for now. If you are gonna keep those polks, I'd suggest you take your 90-100 bucks you were gonna dump on rears and grab a descent 2 channel amp. Since you're mostly concerned about your legs vibrating, you should be able to get an ok 2 channel that would make an enormous difference in sound over the head unit. Run the stock 6x9s off the deck, amp the fronts, fade the deck to the front a little and presto, you've got a sound system. Just match the RMS wattage of those polks uup to whatever 2 channel amp you can afford. Amping the rears will be a waste of precious amp power when you're deck will be plenty suffice to power your rear fill.

I think he's a surround sound kind of guy...hehe. Yeah, staging is important for audio people. Just think of it as if your in front of a live concert, would you turn around and listen to them from the back of your head? Nope. And that's what staging is all about. You want the sound to come from in front of you. I wish I invested in some kick panels, instead of drilling a hole in my door now for the tweets.

But I have a hole in my door now. I would surely have to spend more money to get a new door panel. Hey, I remember someone in here was going to make their own kicks and sell them on here. Did I maybe miss it?
