First Comp Today...
So I went to my first comp today...and I have to say that I had a lot of fun!
They had both SQ and SPL, and I was the only one to do both ( I now know why
). WhiteRabbit was the only other guy in SQ though. I obviously got second in SQ
I was really happy with the score I got in SQ...they only thing that I really got deducted points on was not enough mid-bass...and I had a few points taken away for having too much bass
In SPL, I got a 139.7 with my 2 sealed IDMaxes on a Termlab mic. I was a little dissapointed with the score because I felt like I didn't really know what I was doing and I could not get my bass to hit as hard as I could with some songs
I also felt kinda strange being the only guy with a sealed box...so next time I need to go ported for sure
I ended up getting 3rd out of like 4 people...those fu(kers all had hatches too
Anywayz, I am happy to have my two little dinky trophies
I think everyone in car audio should give it a try...especially everyone in SoCal!

Congrats man, I bet you are now addicted, aren't you
139 isn't bad though, that new term reads a lot lower than the old mic (I am assuming they used a sensor).
Make a properly tuned ported box and work on getting your SPL up a bit, and you will gain at least 1-2 db no problem.
If ever need help with your SPL, you know where to come

Believe me, tones are ALWAYS higher SPL than actual music. While music may seem louder, loud does not necessarily constitute a high SPL number.
If anything, you should have tried a different tone

I did, I tried a few...I was around 139 with almost everything I tried.
...I think the best thing to do would be to build a ported box...plus, having a box that extends almost to the trunk hatch will raise output by itself (IMO, that is the best place in my car for SPL), so that combined with porting should raise me up a bit.
...but I want to walk on that fine line of having a ported box that actually sounds good too.
