door speaker help! asap
i plan on swapping the door speakers and from what i have read it seems like a bit(h. what size fits in the hole and what do you mean by a spacer. if you space it out wont it hit the door panel when you put it back on?
i plan on doing this tomorrow so any quick help is appreciated!
also, is it worth the trouble?

These are unanswerable questions. It depends who you are.
I really didn't have that much trouble doing mine. I used the Scosche 1" spacers for my Pioneers. I would suggest that you trace around the stock speaker with a sharpie before you remove it, so that you have a reference to center the replacement spacer/speaker in the opening.
For me, the sound of the replacement speakers is much improved over the stocks, especially since I have them amped -- I think it was definitely worth it.

took me a lot longer I had to use a jigsaw to cut out a specific shape out of 3/4 MDF and then make a hole inside the cut to fit my CDT CL-61a. I say it was def worththe trouble and the fun.

i did my CDT CL-61a the same way except with a router and a circle jig. My spacer was 1". I have them running off a Alpine MRV-F340 and it sounds nice. now i'm waiting on my subs to arrive

It's pretty easy, but you DO need spacers. I don't think it's a matter of clearance, although that may be the case. The stock speakers for some unimaginable reason have a really wierd shape that won't quite allow a regular speaker to go right in there, but with the spacers, it's a breeze.

Yeah but installing it yourself is so easy, you are just intimidated... I will give you step by step instructions...
1) Lift up the little cover in the handle by your power window controls, take that screw out.
2) Lift the panel up from the side that is towards from the front of your car, pull it out and disconnect the plug.
3) Take out 2 screws that will be now exposed. You may have to do some looking for them, but they are there.
4) Remove the black panel behind the door handle, take those 2 screws out, and then use a small screwdriver to move the clip on the rod, and then take the rod out and remove the handle
5) Remove the sail panel (pull)
6) Pull put the clips around the edge by working your way around with your fingers and pulling. Might take some work to get started but it's easy
7) Pull up
See? That was easy
Give it a try, I can help if you have any issues

Mount it wherever is convenient
I mounted mine on that removable black panel above the pedals, and behind my glovebox on the other side.
I would say mount them closer to the front of the car, that way you won't have to run any wires any great length. But it doesn't matter where you mount them if you've got a special little spot picked out

The size is 6.5". Spacers aren't required unless your new speaker is deeper than the max mounting depth allowed in our vehicles (approximately 2 9/16 (give or take a little, as I haven't measured) inches). If they are deeper than that, you can make your own spacers out of really anything. The common thing seems to be MDF. It's not hard.

Being as it said he srface mounted them, I'd take it as they aren't cut into the sail panel, rather using one of the two (surface or flush mount) mounting kits that usually come with a set of tweets. Meaning he used the surface mounting piece, pre-drilled a hole in the sail panel for the screw. Screwed the surface mounting cup onto there, then installed the tweet. That's just my guess though.
