So it was a wet weekend, which was good for me to get some reading done on fiberglasing and imaging. This is going to be my first project using fiberglass, so it should be a learning experience not to mention fun (fustrating
).
I know there are a few people here who have all ready made some kick pannels out of fiberglass. Can you post some pictures of your finish product cause I am not sure how deep (towards the front of the car) I should place the base of the kick pannel. I have noticed that Q-forms are quite close to the edge of the door. And I am not sure wether to carpet them or paint them.
Also, anyone have some imaging and stage map tracks that they can send to me
by messenger y061q@hotmail.com or any other method.

I reccommend paint if you build yoru kickpanels to a tight tolerance, simply because carpet takes up space.
if you dont have very many complex angles, I would think about the vinyl route, but if you ahve too many angles to go through, forget it. itll be a bitch.
if you make it pretty loose, carpeting it makes it look alot better. it also makes it real easy to sand smooth, lower tolerance.
as far as distance back, its best to put them as far back as possible to help stage depth, but you dont want to sacrifice height or footspace. the fartherback you go, the less wide the speakers are. this will kill stage width, and youll hide them under the dash, killing stage height!
I put my tweeters above the mids in teh kicks, and went with an aluminum dome tweet. this kept my response where I wanted it, and by mounting the cups to backstrapping, I was able to point htem in perfect center image and get it at eye level. It was very impressive when first tuned.
if you have silks, or dont want to muss with position much down there, id put them up high in the door. will make it easier to get a high stage, wide.
