Doors not locking properly?

I took my door panel off the other day for my first time, and now when the door is open, the lock does not work properly. When it it is closed, it works fine.

I know somebody else on here had the same problem as I read about it a while back, but I don't remember reading a solution to it.

Has anybody else had this problem and/or can you tell me how I can fix this?

brash is an unknown quantity at this point
Yeah, I had this problem! Never found a solution...
I think it happened because I twisted/pulled the door handle (and thus the metal pole it is attached to) too much while trying to fit the handle out/in the door panel. But I'm not sure.

I tried to check out the locking mechanism, but it is not very accessible, and I don't really feel like taking it all apart, not being able to fix it, and then having to put it all back together. It's not THAT much of a pain, since I never lock/unlock my doors when they are open. Still, it is annoying because it is something that is wrong with my car...

If anyone else knows how to fix this, I'd be very happy to hear how...

Well, I just was looking in the Vehicle Problems forum and found this thread:

Look at post #11... apparently this is normal so you don't lock your keys in your car. Anyone want to confirm this for me...?

not really sure what you are describing but if you have power door locks, when the driver side door is open, you have to pull the door handle then press the lock button. i think this prevents you from locking your keys in the car.

it's in the manual...doesnt anyone ever read it?
