Wtf Was Honda Thinking?!
Why did they put the heater/ac vents right above the stereo. Like civic owners never change them out with aftermarket ones. So now in the winter my JVC KD-S890 overheats, along with any cool days out when the heat is on.
Now, im replacing it with a Clarion VRX745VD in a few weeks (
DVD). Even though this HU won't overheat and start to skip like the JVC i still dont like the way its set up. All i want to know is if it ever crossed their minds that amplifiers + more heat = bad.

they definatley could have given it more room. i just wanted to bitch about it one last time before i get my dvd player in soon, but still, that is pretty dumb putting a plastic tube that carries heat 1/2 the time right over the stereo witch makes heat 9/10 of the time, knowing the stereo can only take so much heat before the hardware messes up.

You must have a bad deck or something. I had a low end kenwood for almost a year and then a highend pioneer now with no probs. I could have the head on all day and nothing would happen.

its a MP3 player that costs $150. You really thinks it won't overheat after 2 hours of straight play with the heat on?
I think metra makes a kit that has the pocket on top and lets you mount the radio on the bottom. You may want to get one of those.
I've never had a problem with overheating on my radio but mine only barely is in front of the vents when its open.

i already know JVC's cheaper MP3 players are crap, but it was a gift so i couldnt complain. had it since dec. 25th but now its time to go dvd. i know its the cheapest dvd player that im looking at but no hide away box so i dont care if it doesnt have a million useless features.

I did not mean to call it crap. I just meant that I would be blaming the manufacturer of the player cause they should be able to withstand the heat and cold was all.

no, its crap. it works well for an hour, but after that its crap. worth the little $$$ you pay for it, but there are a million better head units out there.
I took my Kenwood out after about 1/2 an hour of play with it being hot out with my A/C off and I would say it was warm to the touch that that was about it. I have had it going for over 2 hours with no problems. My CD player is not on the deck though I have a 10 disk changer since my HU does mini disk. I have never used the mini disk yet though. Got the HU used at a good deal.

Umm, flip flop the hu and the pocket. If you're really concerned about it, being as you're going a/v, you could always do a screen like dereks. Or, you could go with the new kenwood unit thats double din, and it doesn't motorize out of the dash.
