Alternator whine/crackle in ONE speaker

I installed my system last night and there is a lot of whining and crackling coming out of the passenger side tweeter. The RCA cable runs right near the ground for about 1.5 feet to get to the amp, and that's about it. Doesn't really come close to the positive line at all (they are on two different sides of the amp, and I run them in opposite directions).

It's not just alternator whine, either, but sort of a rhythmic crackling or something. It is definitely the amp -- I turn down the gain, and the sound goes down. If the engine is running, I get the crackling sound, if the car is on but no engine running, I don't.

Could running the RCA near the ground cause this problem? Any thoughts as to why there would be noise only on one side?

I've turned down the gain a bit on the amp, and now it is mostly inaudible. But it's still there, and I'd really like to get rid of it if possible...

Any help would be appreciated!

Well, I've got some stuff to try. Found this, if anyone is interested. Looks like a good resource...
