custom trunk setup
My friends and I are going to build a custom trunk for my car
Going to be running 2 10in. alpine type r's and not sure which amp im gonna go with yet....
Can anyone give me some tips before we start on this project, cause i've never done this before, and i want to stay away from as many problems as possible.
how long did it take you to build one if anyone has ever done this?
what kind of problems should i watch out for?
anything you recommend i need to get?
thanks

Biggest thing with doing custom work is: Take your time! dont rush. What exactly are you gonna build? False Floor? Fiberglass? you need to be a little more specific.

False floors are not difficult, just make sure you measure and when your done do it again. Always double check before you cut. adding the amp to the false floor always looks nice, especially under some plexi.

here is a neat concept:
when you build your false floor box, build AROUND the spare tire! rather than fiberglass the bottom, cut out two pieces parrallel to the seat backs, that fit into the spare tire well, and "wall off" the spare tire well front and back. its still metal on the sides and bottom, and the spare is still in it. these pieces you will bolt in place and silicone seal them.
now you cut out a piece of MDF that size (to cover the entire top and seal it) and mount your woofers in it, and maybe your amp on that board, too.
then grab some 2x2's and surround the whole thing on top. carpet it, and mount the speakers in it permanently.
now screw that piece of wood onto the top of the trunk, and your box is funtional! its as light as you can possibly get a speaker enclosure. check out one of my DIY's for making a false floor that sits on the 2x2's, and covers up the aesthetic trainwreck we called a subwoofer box
then, when you want to access your spare (and it will be a pain in the ***, but youll have it!) you can just pull out the false floor, unscrew the box top, lift it out or up, then you cna unscrew teh spare and pull it out from INSIDE the box!
besudes, if its pouring rain outside, your calling AAA anyways, right?
