Post School me on Audio!!!

Some of you might laugh at me askin about this basic audio crap, but I wanna understand this better, for future reference, and besides their's a saying that states " There's no stupid questions" <<< but here's some:

I just bought an audiobahn 1300w amp, it's working fine and everything, but there's these small dials that says

BASS BOOST
40Hz-100Hz

LPF
40-140

ShiftPhase
0degree-180Degrees

SubSonicFreq.
20-50

Where do I have to get this things set to get the lowest Frequency and the hardest thump out of my speakers? I've been playin around with the dials but it doesn't seem to have any difference... and also please give me some info on the dials...

I'm still searching for "Hz" and what not Thanks for all the input!!!

First off typical music goes from 20Hz to 20kHz (20,000Hz). Hz is Hertz, its a measurement of frequency of movement over time. To make a 500Hz sound a speaker must move in and out 500 times in one second.

Bass is lower Hz, highs are higher Hz. Something like this ....
* Bass drums - as low as 30 Hz
* Bass guitar - 30 Hz to 200 Hz
* Human voice - 100 Hz to 1,700 Hz
* Piano - 25 Hz to 3,600 Hz
* Cymbals - up to 15,000 Hz

As far as bass 20Hz is barely audible ..... more of a shake than a sound. Many people cross over their subs at about 80Hz, myself I like 65Hz or so. This means the sub is focused on playing from 20Hz to 80Hz, and forgets about wasting time and power on the 80Hz - 20kHz range.

BASS BOOST
40Hz-100Hz
This selects the freq that the bass gets boosted at. If you set it to 65 and turn it on, then the bass at 65Hz will be boosted.

LPF
40-140
This is the crossover freq for the subs. LPF is Low Pass Filter. Setting this to 75 will have the subs playing 20Hz - 75Hz, and not focussing on freqs above 75Hz, besides a sub probably can't play too much higher that 150Hz anyway without soundling like ***. It gets really boomy quick. If you have another amp for the highs set the HPF (High Pass Filter) to about the same freq. Then the highs will play from 75Hz on up to 20kHz and ignore from 75Hz and down.

ShiftPhase
0degree-180Degrees
Normally you want all speakers in phase. What this means is you want all speakers moving out or in at the same time. This way the bass tends to add together. Sometimes because subs are far away or cars have funny reflections of sound this gets thrown off. Most times its best to leave it at zero. This is totally a subjective thing that you have to experiment w/ each car on its own.

SubSonicFreq.
20-50
This is another filter of sorts. Since bass under 20Hz isn't audible this cuts out anything below it. It lets the subs focus on the freqs that you can hear. Personally I'd leave it on 20-25Hz or so. So if you set this to 25, the subs play from 25Hz up to whatever freq the LPF is set to, say 25Hz - 75Hz for example.

I've found for that spine numbing *thump and rumble* in my car, it's best to put the bass boost around 45 Hz, the LPF at 60-65, and the subsonic freq at 20.

none of the settings we give you are exact though. it will depend on your particular setup (equipment, install, location) and your particular tastes. 40-45 Hz is the "booty bass region." most rap bass can be found in this area. turning up the boost a lot here will make it louder for rap, but put on some staind and it will sound really bad.

It's all about what you like. My speakers cross over at 80Hz, but my sub plays bass as high as 125Hz. That's because the speakers don't give much bass by themselves, and I listen to all kinds of music. Luckily, my amp came with an eq adjust centered at 40Hz. So I can always turn up the ghetto bass when a f&f song comes on.

I got my 2X12 Orion 1000w subs in my trunk facing out, i also got it crossed over w/ bass boost control up to 125Hz (set on 60), and i got the rest adjusted based on what you guys suggested and my audio's thumpin like mad!!! imp:, not like my set up before that it just makes my license plate rattle but it doesn't have that much bass inside the car.... man I got my volume on 10 and it's loud enough to have some earwax fall out of my ears! Thanks again you guys, you'll been very helpful... :beer:
