need help w/ ported box
need help w/ ported box
So I wanna try a ported box (for my truck). I'm going to try making one tomorrow. Currently I am playing w/ WinISD. I have never built a ported box and know nothing about it. I have only ever built sealed boxes (more than I can count).
My question is when playing w/ the numbers, whats the Vent Mach telling me. I assume the lower the better? I can assume as long as its green I am ok?
I also assume the port volume needs to be added to the box volume to get an overall size?
Also is there anywhere I should or shouldn't put the port?
Heres what I am planning:
JL 8w3-D2
0.75 cu ft box
1" x 4" x 8" slot port
tuned to 38 Hz
Sound good?

id downfire or rearfire in a truck, sidefiring can work too may times.
as far as where to put the port, your best bet is to have it on the same plane as the woofer. if the woofer fires down, fire the port down. dont fire it up if the woofer fires down!
if the box dimensions are smaller than the port, dont hesitate to fold the port inside the box, its total length will be form the center of the port area all around the box.
if youve built a ton of sealed boxes, youll find building a ported box is a snap. just takes a little more foresight when making cuts and fitting stuff together, but im sure youll get the hang of it immediately
