do i need to rewire my setup?
anyway.... i need some help....
i got a PPI PCX1250 mono amp(250@4ohm 500@2ohm)
and
PPI 4 channel 30rms per channel amp
i'll be running the mono amp at 250rms
i'm currently using 8ga wires from the battery to the splitter....what fuse size should i be using at the battery and at the splitter?? if i leave it at 8ga will it be okie for now? what size ground?
if i should upgrade to 4ga what are the fuse sizes i should be using?? what size ground?
thanks....

keep this in mind. whateve car audio guru tells you, you can back it down a little bit. for your information most HOUSES run on 4 guage wire, you think a little car needs that, with a couple of little amps?? 8 guage won't kill ya if your really dreading the extra work

Use a fuse same size as both your amps are fused at.
If one has a 40 and one has an 80, use a 100 or 120 amp ANL fuse... I only say 100 becuase I am not sure if they make 120's, but ideally that is what you should use.
And yes, 4 awg to the distro block.
Ground should be same size as power

wire gauge is determined by the amount of current, not voltage, that goes through a wire.
houses run off 110/120, and 220/240
cars run at 12.5-14.4, most common avg is 13.8
now:
P = IV, I = P/V, V = P/I
WHERE:
P = power, in watts
I = current, in amps
V = volts
example 1 - lets say your 100 watt light bulb draws 108 watts (nothing is perfect)
in house, 108 watts at 120 volts, or, 108/120, thats .9 amps, which is not much at all
same example, in car, that 108 watt bulb at 13.8 volts, or 108/13.8, 7.8 amps, to produce the same amount of power.
example 2, more audio related.
400 watts of class A power, 50% efficient, total draw would be 800 watts
home amp = 800/120 = 6.66 amps
car amp = 800/13.8 = 57.97 amps
heres a vague wire chart of gauge power vs length ratings:

ludlam Realize i did say "8 gauge won't kill ya if you are dreading the work" sure 4 gauge 2gauge 00gauge would be better but 8 gauge is not going to kill him. he simply asked do i HAVE to go to 4 gauge.
nice science though.

so i can stay with the 8ga wires i have now? cuz i don't want to rewire the car cuz its a pain...
so the fuses i should be using from the distribution block
(120*2)/13.8=17.39 so 20amp?
(250*2)/13.8=36.23 so 40amp?
and from the battery the fuse should be
(370*2)/13.8=53.62 so 60amp?

confused???...... some other websites have different ratings...
http://www.electronixwarehouse.com/e...s/wiresize.htm
it says that 8ga is enough for 500watts rms.
are my fuse ratings correct?
