ipod install with kenwood
i have a new kenwood head unit. there is an "input aux" which is two rca's. is it poss. to hook rca's to the head unit and then a headphone jack to the other side for my ipod. i bought the cable but i am confussed about one thing, my head unit does not have a "aux mode" i just have a "tuner", "cd", and "all off" mode. how would the ipod play. is it poss. or is the only way to do it through a "ipbus" thing, that is connected through the cd changer connection.
thanks for your help if anyone can give me any!!!!

Yeah connecting like that would work just fine. All you will need is a mini-headphone jack to RCA cable, not a big deal at all...
And on MY deck (JVC), I get to the aux mode by holding the AM/FM and CD-CD/CH buttons at the same time... try something like that or look in your manual (probably online at the Kenwood website if you don't have it)

jmaz - check your owner's manual for the deck controls to enable your aux in, I"m guessing it is turned off by default. For my Alpine CDA-9811 I had to both flip a switch on the bottom of the deck and I had to enable from a fuction menu to make it work.
thanks for the help guys i figured it out. have you guys noticed the quality of sound being a slight bit off? i played a jayz album that i took right from a cd and i feel like the quality is a little off. what do you think is the best volume to have the ipod at? all the way up and then adjust with the face or someother combo. thanks again

alright
play a cd as loud as you can without distorting (your max volume)
remember how loud is and what number volume on your headunit it is
now
go to ipod
turn ipod volume to 0
turn headunit to max volume number
slowly turn up ipod till you get teh same loudness

I think it would make more sense to do that the other way around- turn HU all the way down then turn ipod up till it distorts, back it down just a hair (so it's not distorted anymore) then turn HU up till it distorts and you're set.
good thinking i will try that tomm. john i was thinking the same way, but if i was to do that i would never here the music with the head unit sound all the way down. you know what i am saying.
ludlam. that sounds good. is that a known thing to do or is it just your experience. i am just wondering if that is a known way for best sound quality.
thanks again

jmaz - the compression involved with MP3 does have an impact on sound quality, which in some ways is hard to describe. My Alpine deck has functionality in it that boots low and high end in order to compensate for it, but there remains a noticable difference when I compare CD to MP3.
Another thing - don't use any of the iPOD equalizers in your car - I've found that most tend to distort rather than improve the sound.

the eq thing won't be a prob i don't have any set now anyway.
i am glad you notice the diff. also coop! i am really into sound quality and it was making me pissed. i figured it couldn't be my speakers (mbquarts). so i was thinking something with the head unit.
I guess it is just the diff. between cd and mp3.

that's a huge reason why I will never BUY an MP3. I do convert WAV's extracted from my CD's but the bottom line is you are sacraficing sound quality for portability.
I'm not bitching, it doesn't sound BAD - there are just noticable differences.
