...so i built a couple of ported boxes for my subs. The boxes barely fit in my trunk, but I could not get these huge 4" ports to fit on the same side as the subs...so i have to start from scratch...and i need some opinions...
I think what I want to do is build the box the same size as my old Shiva box (except for the depth being 1" smaller). So the dimensions I am looking at is 31 x 22 X 15.25 (about a 4.8 cubic foot box) with .75" MDF. Ok, so here is the dilemma...I broke down an unloaded the cash on 2 of these ports from Partsexpress ...but the are frekin huge man!!! I will need to cut a 5-6" hole for each one, which will not allow me the put both the subs and the ports on the same plane.
Should I:
A) have the subs facing towards the hatch, with the port facing up (maybe with each one facing towrds the empty rear speaker holes?
B) Build a slot ported box with about a 13.75 x 2.5 x 18 port in the center of the box with all of them facing back (which I have never done before)?
or
C) have the subs and ports all facing up in my huge box (which I dunno how good that would sound)?
My other question is what is a the maximum outside dimension of a box that I can somewhat easily get in and out of my trunk?
thx

just go with the slot port if you can keep it on the same side as the subs...or you could fire subs up and ports back..this box design works great in crx's (see all db drag cars from 2000+ in SS 1-2) but i dont know how well it works in trunk cars.

So I have my box all installed...but I had a few leaks so I had to pull the subs out to cover the leaks...I need to wait until tomorrow to play it to see how it sounds...
I have two ported boxes with 4" round flared ports that are 15" long each. Each box is 2.9 cubic feet before displacement...and my subsonic is set to 20hrtz...even with the leaks it got CRAZY LOUD...
...150dbs or bust!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
edit: ...for some reason I am having a hard time uploading the pics into my gallery.

you can totally fit the ports on the baffle, no problem
you got space between the 12's! you can add triangular shaped ports between the woofers above and below center between the woofers

I would recommend building a box like mine where each sub has it's own space and a slot port is shared in the middle. The port in my box doubles as a massive brace, running from top to bottom and practically from the front to back of my box.
If you want something similar, what you could try is making a port like mine, adding a baffle on each end of the port creating 2 back-to-back L-shapes sort of, and then in the middle... hard to describe that would create a spine, basically a 1/4 pipe on each lower corner of the L that would help the air "roll" out of the box. The better you can direct the air flow in your box, the louder the sound you will get out of it. Air is very predictable and if you properly direct it where you go, you can increase your sound big time.

I drove to work with my new ported setup...and I played it loud on the freeway...and it gets obnoxiously LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I may go back and seal up my prefab sealed box to make sure i get all the leaks, and go back to using that.
...why can't I just make up my mind!!!!!

Well I love my ported box so I would recommend a Slot Port but I guess that doesnt matter anymore since your going back to sealed. Stop changing your mind damn it. hahaha

Ughhh, I know...I am just a damn bass fiend and I need it anyway I can get it. Honestly, my subs started to sound real nice and loud sealed after they broke in...but I wanted as much bass as I could get...but my car sounds now like I can blow it apart if I turn my car up to loud. Plus, it was nice having Some trunk space.
