So i have a 12 inch Rockford Punch 800w Sub, and my box is a basic sealed one, which is smaller then the specs for the sub, so i want a new box, a friend of mine recently got a type R and put it in a nice alpine ported box, after hearing ported i want to switch to ported, i like the sound better, My question is, will any sub work in a ported box, will My Punch Work in an Alpine Ported box ?

Most subs work in ported boxes. Mine (ED E12O) is the exception because it was made for sealed enclosures. I'm sure you can put your sub in a ported box although I would probably build one instead of using the Alpine box.

You know what, you might be able to pull it off in the Alpine box depending on how much volume the box has. Generally speaking you'll need a larger box if you're going ported.

Go ported. I'm in the same position as you. My homeboy had me make him a custom sealed box (made to spec) to free up some trunk space, but his 12 in 800 watt Rockford HE2's just dont hit the same now compared to when they were in a big-@$$ ported box. I'll be making him a ported box within the next couple of weeks. He may have to downgrade from 2 subs to 1 if he wants to keep any trunk space.
