I could use some help on deciding a decent paging alarm? Not a noobie question.

Hey guys,

After doing some searching, I've found alot of alarms out on the market come with some fancy extras like the windows rolling up, sunroof, ect.

Well I just got my audio system installed and need something to "try" to deter thieves away plus protect my rims. And yes I know a security system is only as good as the install itself so Im taking that into perspective.

So here we go: Im looking for a paging system that comes w/ two remotes, if the car is bumped the alarm will go off, comes with a tilt sensor or is compatible with one added. Nothing fancy.

Oh Im going to have the system installed by a professional but I'll be deciding on where to hide the brain of the system. And Im planning on getting a hood lock so the thieves wont go for the gold and just cut the battery. And no Im not putting a back up battery in the car. Any suggestions for a system?

I plan to get the alarm off ebay but I'll be willing to spend $200 for an alarm. I've found alot of people here think the Viper is just as good as the Clifford. Well both alarms come with features Im not looking for but I would like a trusted alarm in the car. Thanks.

I've seen the Clifford Matrix RS3 go as low as 250 somewhere on the web, I would deffinately go for that. It was on the front page of consumer reports or something a year ago when the Matrix line came out and I've wanted one ever since but the ******* installers around here either charge too much or have a bad reputation with installs. I did my homework though and found that overall Clifford is better then Viper and that Viper alarms seem to malfunction at times.

Only company I know of is CompuSTAR, which is what I had when I had my Civic... I went with the .5 mile, however the 1.5 mile range is awesome.... All in all, a clean install is what normally does the trick.... Oh yeah... LOL... My CompuSTAR pager had this whistling sound to it when it was disarmed and armed... LOL, I used to do that when chicks passed by and they would thank me.....

i installed couple prestige 996 for some ppl and it seems to be very reliable and inexpensive.
~140 on ebay brand new. comes w/ 2 remote.
if you have M/T go w/ the compustar, just installed on on a 97 hatch and its pretty pimp.

Well, there is no difference between the Viper and Clifford 2 ways, they are the same alarm with a different looking transmitter. The compustar has a much better range if you get the top of the line model. And while i usually hate Audiovox alarms, the 996 actually has a lot of features for the money. The only one that is really worth the money in my mind is the compustar, because its the only one with a range that is long enough to work when you go in to the mall or the grocery store. Audiovox or DEI or any other have a max range of 800 ft in real life, and thats TOPS. All of them have their quirks, DEI's transmitters tend to quit working, or at least the notifications quit; while it seems like the compustars need to be reset every once in a while by taking the battery out for a second. No 2 way comes with 2 2way remotes that i know of, but you can get a 2nd for any of them.

Why wouldnt you put a backup battery on your alarm system? They're like $30 at most.

I am considering purchasing an Astra A777 soon, I think that might be a good way to go for you. Don't have much info on it though.

Those are from scytek who were manufacturing alarms for Black Widow, Ungo, and others. Now they are marketing their own product.
