Setup options... too many.... what to do?
Setup options... too many.... what to do?
So I am laying out a system for my girlfriends car. I wanna use all my old stuff without dishing out cash on new and better things.
I have a pair of SPL 12's, and Soundstream SA244 amp, and a Pioneer 7000 deck.
The Pioneer deck:
- 45 x 4 watts (haha)
- 3 sets of RCAs
- internal crossover of 50/80/125 both high and low pass
The Soundstream SA244:
- 60x4 @ 4 ohms
- 90x4 @ 2 ohms
- 180x2 @ 4 ohms
The SPL 12's:
- 12" DVC 4 ohms each coil
- 300 watts program power (is that rms or max????)
- 94db @ 1m w/ 2.43v
I plan on getting a pair of 6x8's for her for around $50 to $70 (max w/ shipping). I was thinking of these off ebay... Pioneer TS-A6880R (4-ways) Pioneer speakers Any other suggestions on highs for her doors?
How should I set this up? In my old Taurus the I had the two 12's off the 90x2 and I had 6x9's off the 60x2. I was hitting 128db. Not too shabby, more than enough for her. I think the SPLs are really efficient for a sub.
Idea one:
- Subs off half the amp, highs off the other. 90x2 to subs and 60x2 to highs
Idea two:
- Sub on each channel, highs off the deck. 60x4, 60 per coil, 120 watts total per sub
Idea three:
- Bridge each half the amp, run one sub only, highs off deck power. 180x2, 360 total to sub
Too many decisions .....

I think you should dedicate the amp to the subs and leave the high end power to the deck. Using only half of that amp for the subs will thoroughly underpower them, and you could potientially have the problem of dead subs, amp or both.
That's my .02

I would run subs with the amp and others speakers to the headunit unless you want to get another amp then I would run your current amp with the 4 interior speaker and get a mono amp or some amp that would run stable 1ohm mono. If you are looking for cheap supplies I do have an amp that runs 500watts rms @1ohm for cheap. email me if interested.
