XM Radio

Alright, I don't usually venture in here, but I did try searching.... thanks to this stupid search engine, 'XM' is too short a term to search and it won't search 'XM radio' for the same reason, but maybe someone knows something about it.
I had a rental Buick last week that had this, and I thought it was cool as hell. I looked into it a little and its not really that expensive to get myself setup, but I have a couple questions.
1. There is some way to hardwire this into the stock stereo right? I don't feel like just plugging it into the cig lighter, I'd rather integrate it in. A guy at Crutchfield said something about an FM modulator, and you set your radio to a station and it comes through... I kinda get the idea, but I'm a stereo noob.
2. Does that little antenna need to be exposed? or can it be mounted on the underside of the trunk or in the headliner or something? I don't feel like drilling a hole in the roof to mount it and run the wire.
3. Does anyone actually have it? Anything that should be known as quirky? Seemed to me it was like a constant playing CD... can't complain about that.

Thanks for tolerating my noobiness....

LudlamTheory is an unknown quantity at this point
okay, here are your answers:

1 - hardwiring, yes, its possible, but it requires some adapters that go in through the stock d changer plug. fm modulators sound like ***, they sound fm quality at their BEST, and sometimes even worse than fm
2 - yes, you must have it exposed, but, you dont have to drill a hole...
lots of poeple have luck with putting it on their trunklid, and the wire just goes directly into the trunk, or, if you want it on your roof, you can run the wire under all the black molding up there. ive had some luck with putting them on the dash or the rear deck, but reception is slightly lost
3 - i dont have it, but i borrowed a unit for a few weeks once, and ive installed em

in through the stock changer plug... wonderful. What do you do if there happens to be a changer plugged into said plug?

It depends whay unit you buy. If you are talking about the portable "Delphi" unit and you install the FM modulator, there is no need for the cigarette plug because the FM modulator taps into the ACC and IGN wires. If you go for one of the FM Mod units like the XM commander than it does the same, taps into the ACC and IGN wires. The only reason you would need to use the cigarette adapter is if you were using the caseete or wireless kind of XM tuner. I personally have SIRIUS in my car and did the install myself. I have a Panasonic FM mod but plug it into the AUX input on my deck. I mounted the Antenna on the rear deck and it works just fine.
