Ok, so I currently have my four Shivas Isbaric in my trunk. The main reason I have them Iso is because I was able to fit the right size ported box to make my speakers sounding great with my limited box making skills. However, the box takes up too much of my trunk and I was thinking of starting to plan out something new.
Anywayz, for my next setup I want a smaller box (because i want to be able to have trunk space and get to my spare tire). Any suggestions on subs that would fit in with my system and can be in a smaller box, and that i would be able to keep the SPL that I have now. ...and honestly I love how my system sounds now, and i am worried that i will not be able to duplicate it. Any suggestions on Subs that I should audition? ...or setup ideas?
..I'm just concidering for the future right now...

spare tire well install, with the box UNDER the spare! you can fit everything you need with access, it just takes a little creativity!

I was maybe thinking about going with two IDMaxs in one of my boxes that has 1.4 cubic foot boxes. That would be roughly 1/2 the size of my current box. I wonder if my JBL amp would be ok two maxes??

Honestly, I love the Maxes, but I dunno if they will be with my amp...in terms of power I think it will be ok in 4 cubes, but I dunno...I also read a thread recently on another audio forum that ID does not recommend Class D amps on the Maxes...which I am still trying to figure out...and i know that the subs will be x-overed well because I won't use the JBL's x-over.

but
were blockrockers, were not competing sq, we dont spend 20 dollars a foot on speaker cable, we dont run 5 thousand dollar brax amps, we dont have focal utopias or rainbow reference components, we dont spend a months imaging our left kickpanel, ad infinitum
we wouldnt notice, nor would we really care
as a matter of fact, mr whiterabbit installed a max with 800 - 1kw goin to it in a wrx some months back running off a betteraudio 1600 M1 amp, which is class D (although it is a badass class D amp, i own one myself
) and said it sounded beautiful, although i doubt he'd be the guy to ask about this now, since hes decided to get all sq **** recently and wants to buy tube amps.fonto sir, id maybe look into a single brahma 15 or a xxx 15 or an orion h2 15 ported runnin from your amp if you are intersted in a single sub setup, theyre all some mean speakers with some mean potential if done right
pair of maxes would work too, but personally id look into more power if youre gonna do pair of maxes. hey, who knows, maybe you can upgrade form that jbl 1200 to somethin else

...yeah, maybe upgrade in the future for the amp. For the Maxes the reason why I thought maybe 600-700 watts would be ok is because i would be putting 'em in a bax that is kinda big...I have those Subzone boxes sitting around, and they are built nice, and would seem perfect for Maxes.

i got an Alpine MRD-M1000 today in the mail, i'll throw it on the IDMAX tuesday and let you know how it is
i'm giving the sub about 5-600W rms right now and my nose shakes on good bass notes. my trunk lid buzzes too, right on the top, you can feel the air moving. kinda weird, i just noticed it when i was brushing ice off the other night. BTW, my IDMAX is just in 1.25 cubes sealed, on the lower end.
i even had it on a 400W peak power amp for a couple weeks. still sounded good, just not quite so loud.
i'll probably be selling my IDMAX V3 D4 at the end of summer if you still need one
i never saw this sheet til i got my sub

Right now my subs sound pretty darn good, and when the bass hits my roof dents and my sunroof lifts...so i am pretty satisfied with the output...I wonder if the Maxes would sound better and be louder...honestly, my subs sound so amazing clamshell (and prolly because they are in the right size enclosure), that i wonder if I am gonna lose sound quality and SPL just for extra space in my trunk...and if it was worth it?!?! If I ever get a flat i am screwed too.

that's good they put the sheet on the site i guess.
i doubt you'll lose any significant SQ with the maxes. and they have plenty of SPL too. but i don't know if the gains really will be worth it.
i know how wanting a change can be though. the gain in trunk space would be nice, that's why i got the max.

700-800w would be fine. I wouldn't trust the idmax with more than 1000w on it at full tilt. They have a pretty damn small coil compared to the rest of it's competitor.
The info on class D and ID sub is BS. ID subs are no different than others. Class D is a topology. Different ways to make power, in this case, more efficient at higher volumes than a Class A/b.
Choose whatever fits your budget. Class D aren't bad. THey have been used so many times in the IASCA circuit. The differences is so damn little, buts practically inaudible. That is, if placebo comes along..
