fiberglassing question
Yah, i am wanting to get into this a bit....have some ideas and want to start working with glass. Is there a good site that i can use to get the basics down, or possibly a good book? Someone told me today that haynes put out a custom car stereo manual....but i heard it was pricey....will it help me? I went to home depot and talked to someone about doin ti but he never did anything for a car b4.
I did a search and found some link the other day with some pictures....it helped a bit but still i am looking for a good webiste or book to explain to me how to do kick panels, dash pieces, how to make molds, and how to make boxes. THANKS FOR ANY HELP!

you can read a book all day, you can look at the best website you can find, but, IMO the best aid is hands-on practice. i'll browse through my bookmarks and find some sites you can look out, but still, before diving right in and making trim pieces, bezels, boxes, whatever, practice. experiament with everything. mixing resin and hardner, matting, fleecing, all that good stuff. the best teacher i can think of is repeatedness.
one good place if you're interested in making a career of something of this sort is www.installerinstitute.com its a schooling program they have. 4 weeks of training, and they put you through the MECP course as well. i plan on attending it eventually, but with my current job, i just dont have enough time off to take it. if money is an issue, thats also a concern to going there. its about 4 grand to take the course. 95% of their students pass the MECP course though. lemme find my links to glassing techniques and stuff, and i'll post them.

thanks....for all the help....i went out today and bought some stuff to begin a small project....well i think i thought small and picked too small of a project but we will see.
I am making a switch panel for inside of the ex bin with a slope.....i made the mold and it came out bad ***. Now i am making the design....it will dry over night. I am afraid though that i picked something soo small that it could end up being more challenging than building a sub box or kick panels 1st. Ohh well.....trouble shoot away.
Ludlam thanks i will keep that in mind....i have a firend that is really good witht he stuff but he wont teach me how to do it b/c he doesnt think i have the imagination for the stuf.....soo far i think he just doesnt want em to learn b/c he wants me to pay him to do it.

another good way to get it where you can release, and take it out of the vehicle to work on it is to use aluminum foil under the piece as a barrier. tape the seams though...
