a different kind of sub in my car...

okie dokie ive got an '04 coupe. i dont want to spend money period on a sound system cause im **** about being conservative when it comes to money.

anyways, i have a Phillips home theater system

see that little box sub? would it make sense to put THAT in my car? the system in my living room has enough bass without it so i dont really need the box sub. the sub has one rca going out and is powered so it has a standard electrical plug. is there a way to adapt the plugs to fit it into my car?

thanks

does the sub box carry it's own amplifier? or is it amplified by the main unit itself

it would have its own amp. so you would need an inverter. you could spend the money you'd use for an inverter and get better audio inprovements though...

It's not worth it. A bazooka tube would cost the same or less than an inverter, and most likely be louder. Wiring would be easier on the bazooka tube. I assume you have the OEM radio? The bazooka tube will splice right into your rear speakers. Your home theater sub will need a line output converter that will get spliced into the rear speakers, and a splitter that will take the L&R and move them into one plug.

A bazooka tube can be had for around $100.

Those are bazooka tubes on Crutchfield, check ebay for better prices. I have seen them at circuit city for around $100 as well.

The main difference between that and a "standard" setup would be that the amplifier is inside the box with the sub. All you have to do is run a power and ground wire, and tap into the rear speakers. Install should take you less than 2 hours if you are comfortable/familiar with taking some of the panels off the interior of your car.
