JBL 300.1, $150 (ebay)
Amp Wiring Kit, $25 (Walmart)
Box, $100 (local shop)
$400 and thats everything ....
Shiva
JBL 300.1
1100 watt amp wiring kit
You could do a 15" Tempest too, but thats $150. Either way both would bump thats for sure, and sound really good. Lots of people love those subs. It would by far be better than anything else in the same price range.

Mm, I have a Shiva setup a lot like that. Also, if you can build your own sealed box, 1.8 ft^3 about, you can save even more money. You should be able to get all the materials for less than $30.
im real real lazy.....so maybe i'll just do the install..... ive been to the flea market and seen boxes, any thoughts on those, dont know if i should get one from there or not..... anyone have experience wit the flea market boxes....?

its the volume that counts
one of the local flea's had some decently built boxes just because they bought them in bulk from a local audio shop
what matters is te internal airspace of teh box

hey dru106..... you willing to go get me the stuff down there if i pay all da shipping and "handeling"...... its just a thought if i have to resort to that...... what brand is the amp and subs though...... i could probably find it at around da same price......
Here's what I think you should do. In my Civic, I did the install myself and I built the box for my sub. Both of these things alone saved me alot of money. I currently have 1 JL Audio 12w3v2 D4, $150 on ebay, an Alpine M300 600W, $170 on ebay. I built a slotted box following the specs on the JL Site, $30 for MDF and materials, cables and RCAs were around $40. All together I would say that this cost me around $340, but it has been a while since I bought all these things. It would cost no more than $400 and the result is great. This combination goes together very well in my opinion, it sounds great. In all, building the box and installing everything, it took me around 2 days building the box and installing the necessary wiring.
ok.... i'll probably do that... that 'll also make it possible for me to make one that fits.... and is more hidden..... cool cool.... too lazy now and busy wit school.... looks like a spring break assignement for me.... i'll probably shop around..... and by then i'll have more money...... money = more boom....

i agree with teh shiva setup, cheapest ive ever built a car, for about $340, in and out.
but that amp is no good, the shiva is a 4 ohm driver, and the jbl 300.1 makes 150 rms at 4 ohms.
I reccommend a soundstream or earthquake amplifier rated between 300 and 500 rms. they can be had for as little as $80 off ebay, brand new.
and 300 rms is more than plenty for a shiva, much less 500

if you are looking to impress, the tempest might be a fantastic solution too. its a very impressive speaker. Doesnt shake teh seats much, but the bass encompases yoru entire body, its like taking a bath in sound.
you can get them preowned for $100 plus shipping easily (ive never had problems with preowned speakers)
the ascrifice is that youll use up nearly all your trunk to give it the air it needs, and a self built box is pretty much a must, its very difficult to find a 4 cubic foot sealed box or 4.5 cubit foot ported box.
the results speak for themselves, however. and the resell value of the tempest is fantastic, I bought three of them at $100 each, then turned around and sold them for $100 each, I lost no money in running them. and once again, they are so efficient, even 250 rms gets them very very loud
