IPOD install
Hi guys,
I wanted to know if it is possible to hook up an IPOD to my car sterio so that I can play MP3 directly from the IPOD through my car system. I have the factory radio.
I have tryed the wireless devices that are meant to do this, but the sound quality sucks, Maybe there is a way to addapt a plug to my radio somehow so I can just plug it into the ipod.
Thanks !

There is an adapter that will plug into the back where you would hook up a CD changer. It basically will turn it into an auxillary input. Its a special adapter though and its hard to find. I'll try to see if I can find the website link I had that was for this.
This looks like it is exactly what you're looking for!

Anyways, almost all of the details you need to know are over on my site. In hindsight, I probably would have routed the RCA cabling around the passenger side of the console instead of coming through the top of the storage pocket.
The audio quality is much better than either an FM transmitter, modulator, or cassette adapter.
If you're looking for details on other car installs, the forums over at http://www.ipodlounge.com would be a good place to go.

You can add the AUX inputs, but it is only available for certain brands of HU. I found mine for Kenwood at Ultimate Electronics ($19.99) and they also had Alpine. Is there one for the stock HU?

yeah if you have an after market radio then it is much easier and chaper.
While using the FM modulators it does like I am listening to some really bad AM station alot of times.
I should've know better

I should've know better It is cheaper to add to an aftermarket headunit, but you have to spend the money on an aftermarket headunit. Its not a bad deal to follow his DIY to add an Auxillary input to the Stock headunit
I just got the iTrip for my iPod, it f@!#ing blows, it gives the worst signal I have ever heard. Wish I did a little research before I bought it. I hope that the place I bought it will let me return. I would advise not getting an FM Transmitter if you have an iPod, use an aux input instead.
P.I.E. (precision interface electronics) makes the aux adapters that are sold pretty much everywhere - you can see/buy them directly from them - http://www.pie.net/1virtual.htm - but i'd shop around. here's some others too:

I just installed an aux connection for my iPod to my '04 stock stereo and took some pics as I went. I'm not completely finished yet but I have it working.
One problem I've noticed is it skips 3-4 times if I change songs using the stereo controls instead of the iPod controls. I hope to get that figured out soon. Other than that, it seems to work well.
I used the PAC aux-pod.
Pics are on the 3rd page of my cardomain site below if anyone is interested.

I bought a PIE aux adapter which I purchased from cardiscount.com for $56 including shipping. I used the instructions from cheaphondaparts.com for installing a factory tape deck. The total install took me about 3 hours. Of course I could do it alot easier the 2nd time around. I highly recommed this for anyone with an IPOD. Essentially the adapter is a small box with 2 rca jacks & a 14 pin connector which hooks up to the CD Changer input. I simply stuck the aux box behind the center console where the fog light switch would be. I left the right switch cover off & fed the 3 ft. RCA to 1/8" cable. I have an I-trip too & it just doesn't cut it for replacing CD's. FYI I have an 04 EX civic coupe 5sp Magnesium.
