99 si stolen alarm/kill switch questions
99 si stolen alarm/kill switch questions
Last night my friends car was stolen, its a 99 civic si. When he purchased it he got lojack, and it also had a fuel cut off. It was stolen once and recovered by lojack, but i think it was recovered the next day so it was to late, the rims were gone and various parts from the car. Since then he had a viper alarm installed, but yesterday it was stolen again. He said he didnt hear the alarm go off. The car was found about 4-5 hours after it was stolen, via the lojack. But whats the deal I thought the alarm has some kind of cut off. Why did it take so long to track it with the lojack? Also the car was found about 2-3 miles away in another town. I wonder if the fuel cut off worked and thats where it stoped, but I think being able to drive a couple of miles is too long. I guess that just has to do with how much fuel is in the lines though.
Anyway this really worries me, I wanted to get a viper alarm for my car but I don't know now. Whats a good way to protect your car. Anyone install a kill switch, how exactly do they work?

An experienced car theif can steal a car in about 2 or 3 minutes. As far as cut offs for the fuel pump, ignition, they can be deactivated simply by cutting 1 wire. Tell your friend to get a garage or keep one eye and one ear open when he is sleeping.
doenst work like that, fuel cut-off prevents the vehicle from starting, it wont just magically activate itself 3 miles away once the car is stolen.
There is no way to 100% prevent your car from being stolen, even with an alarm, even if you have a gargage. All you can do is be careful, watch where you park, know what kind of area your in.

I have a viper alarm and it's a waste of money. A thief can pop the hood and cut the siren wires in seconds. At least our cars have an immobilizer built in. Better than nothing. What really works is an alarm with pager. Then you can run out there as soon as it triggers.

Alarm
Pager...That is my suggestion. I have a Clifford RS III, with a prox sensor and back up battery. It's not failsafe, but it would generally give me enough time to get outside when I'm at home. Just a side note, "Protected by Glock" stickers make people think twice before they mess with your car.
this car have anything special or flashy? when ppl steal these cars, they look for something inside (rims? deck?). was it stolen in the same place? (maybe if so, it could be stolen by the same person).

Can you get around the factory immobilizer? I thought those were very near impossible to defeat without a key.
