components question... confused
i want to get some component speakers for my car, i have an 03lx, so im guessing i have to get the place where the tweeter goes in cut out of the door right? i was looking at jl audio or infinity but im not sure which sizes/series do i need. theres so many that its confusing at times and especially in prices. what size and series would i need for the front and back. im gonna need a 4 channel amp too i believe too right? thanx. i dont kno much about speakers and components, sorry. just starting to change that stuff
Well its really all about what you want to do, how much you want to spend, etc. A 4 channel amp is good to have but it isn't required if you have an aftermarket headunit. The speakers will sound better and respond better if they are hooked up to an amp, but lots of people have speakers hooked up directly to an aftermarket headunit. For mounting the tweeter, if you have a coupe you can go get the tweeter pods that the EX has and just mount your tweeters in there.
The size of speakers you get makes a difference between the coupe and sedan because the coupe has 6x9s in the back and the sedan has 6.5's in the back. I would recommend the JL XR components for the front though because I have the infinity's and if I had the money and could go back and do it over again I would get either JL or Diamond Audio's because the infinity's lack a lot of midbass. But the JL's will probably require a little work to get them to fit in the door properly. The infinity's lower end infinity's will fit without any trouble.
What kind of headunit do you have? Do you have a coupe or Sedan? And how much are you looking to spend on speakers and maybe an amp?

just get any 6.5" components. JL audio, Infinity, Diamond audio, and MB quarts....all are very good options. As of now, MB quarts are most expensive and has the highest rating over all. I have diamond audio m3's and i like the way it sounds, less harsh than the titanium tweeters of the quarts. JL and infinity are both very good, and definitely should be put into consideration. Depending on your budget, do some research, and get whatever suits ur needs. I think you should get a 4 channel amp for sure, it makes the components sound really crisp!
Well if costs isn't an issue I would either look at the JL XR Components for the front or some Diamond Audio Hex components. Both are very, very good component sets and you would probably be satisfied with both. I would run those with a good amp that would produce around 50-100 watts RMS. So maybe a JL amp since you already have one? For the rear, a lot of people would tell you that you don't need rear speakers to have a good sound stage. Me, personally, I like having rear fill and I think it adds to the sound. But thats just me. You have to figure out what you want, and kind of go from there for the rear. You'll need 6x9's and you'll need to find some that will fit. I'm not sure what you're choices are. I just have some cheap pioneer 3-way 6x9s in my rear deck and they fit fine and sound decent. But go listen to speakers and figure out what you want. The infinity's tend to be lacking in the midbass, the JL's are one of my favorites, but so are the diamond's. If I was going to buy new speakers for the fronts I would probably have a hard time trying to decide between the Diamond Audio Hex components and JL components. Personally I don't like MB Quart all that much, but thats just me. Hope this helps.

so from reading everything, get some 6.5 components in the front and just get 6x9 speakers rather then components in the back? then run them all of a 4 channel amp and im set
I personally don't think I would like kicks much. I've heard them and they sound good but its a matter of preference. I think it lowers the sound stage too much for me, I can tell its coming from there as oppose to when they are in the doors and the tweeters are higher the sound stage sounds more at ear level to me. I would maybe like them better if I could try putting the midbass in the kicks and then the tweeter up high... or would that sound wierd?
I was going to buy MB Quarts, but instead got the Infinity 60.45cs. Its Infinity's Kappa series which is there Midline (above refrence, below perfect) but I would say that they are REALLY good. I dont have them hooked up to an amp right no, but when i did, and i had my sub on, people constanly were getting in and telling me that I had the best sounding car they had ever been in. And these were people who did not know car audio and who i would never expect to hear them even talk about cars. You will be told that Infinity tweeters are pretty harsh on some high notes, and I have noticed this a few times. Ive had the speakers for about 18 months now and have only had to turn down some treble for a song about 3 times i think. All in all they are only about $150, (i think i paid $139 ) , so they leave with money for an amp, and they also sound great. I have an Infinity Perfect 12.1 SVC in the back and it is also recommmended, although i wish i could give it more power and see what it could really do. I only have about 200w going to it now.

I have infinity tweeters and they're not too harsh. Of course they're angled away from my ears and running off deck power. It still sounds good without being too loud. I have infinity 2-ways in the doors as well (amped).
Here's a pic in the sedan:
