subs in an integ??
Hey,
Would it really matter what way the subs are facing in a 2dr integ? Would it be good to have them firing up? or towards the back? or towards the cabin?

Of course direction matters. It can make subs sound night and day different.
Since every car, sub, box, and listening preferences are different there is no right way to face it. You need to experiment. I generally prefer facing backwards though. Gives the bass more time to develop before it gets to you.
I had two 12's in my Taurus once facing forward. Sounded like I had a single 8" in the trunk. Faced them backward and then they pounded. I couldn't believe the difference. Somehow facing forward the bass waves must have been cancelling themselves out .....

i heard that bass sounds better when it is reflected off something, and more is better. my computer subwoofer is a lot louder when i face a wall that reflects the bass back into my ears, than if i face directly at the sub. i dunno the science of it tho
from my experience, there's more rattling of the trunk when i face it away from the driver
(i really need to take a physics class, ppl who took college physics seem to understand this stuff better than me, sigh)

what id do is put any woofer in any dummy box and throw it back there and try different positions, up, back, forward, side, plane loaded, open, see what sounds loudest.
then go with that. you cant argue with real world results, and they beat the hell out of theoretical possibilities!

as far as sound goes (SQ and SPL), and this has been proven scientifically (if i can find the article i'll post the link), generally the best position is at the rear of the trunk (where it latches) facing into the car. i do not do that, nor do many other people. that is just what i read. it kills your trunk space, and with the box i have, it also keeps the trunk from closing. i say the best way would be to put it in the box and try the different locations, to determine what sound you want from the sub and how you want to hear it.
id like to see the scientific article where they prove this, taking into account the extreeme complexity of the car's accoustical environment.
the last article i read on this matter specifically stated it was dumbing down the information to an extreeme level just to prove that in car accoustics were unpredictable at best.
so unpredictable to proof that forward firing is best? for sure find that article! i wanna see!

i never said i believed it, i was just stating that they did a scientific study. hell, i don't do it, and neither do a lot of competitors, i believe the same way you do, it depends on the car. like i have always said, if there were one way to do something that worked best, or one product that was the best, then why don't all competitors have the same setup? but there isn't i was just saying that it was written in that manner. if i can find it again, i was going to be writing the publisher a letter, and make them look like an idiot. and if i can find it, i'll post it so that you and whomever else would like can do the same. just merely stating that it was written like that.
