indash dvd player and security?
i wanna get one of them indash dvd player.. but just afraid of getting it jacked. Since i can't take the faceplate or anything.... i'm just really afraid i might get it jacked.... those of you who have a indash dvd player how do you guys handle this problem?
I did the hidden HU DIY (see stereo relocation thread started by madmax for more info) that uses your OEM stereo's modified faceplate to cover your aftermarket HU/indash, so thieves see a stock stereo when in fact, behind it is your HU/indash. Then again I also have a detachable faceplate too. Definitely do this DIY, since our cars are so easy to jack our radio.
Simple. Don't get an indash one. Get an external cd/dvd/mp3 player and then buy a monitor (whatever size)... relocate the climate controls, the AC button, the rear defrost button, and the outside/inside air button, then fabricate a whole new dash piece out of fiberglass, abs plastic, carbon fiber, or whatever with a cool sliding cover over the dvd player mounting location and do the same for the screen..
ha, I just kinda pulled that outta my @$$ but it sounds like it'd be a cool idea.. hmmm maybe someday?

With the Hidden HU, that would not really work with a DVD player with flipout screen, I have one and I also have a nice alarm with a pager. I just take the half of the face off that I can and then set my alarm, I also have my windows pretty tinted so you would have to look hard to see much. I have not had a single problem with it yet. Oh, and I also hooked up my Triple air horn to my alarm
Its a celebration bitches!

Ok, as promised here are pics to show that the hidden HU DIY can be done w/ an indash lcd flipout...

Pic to show how far back indash is in stock din brackets.

Just cut and sand the switches, holders, clips etc. behind the stock faceplate for a good fit.

See, still fits flush, even with an indash lcd flipout behind it.

In this pic, notice how close the flip out gets to touching dash. When doing this DIY you'll have to play around w/ the indash to make sure the screen can come out by angling (sp?) the indash up or down, forward or back.

hey connie... is your dvd player the only dvd in dash player that has the detachable face feature?... and is that detachable face just like a detachable headunit...? where its not possible to turn on the headunit if you detach it.. and stuff like that.... also.... does your dvd player include tv module... the thing where it lets you watch tv... or do you have to buy that separately????

With mine it comes with a lot of stuff like touch screen that is fully motorized and it is 7" (the biggest) but the detachable is half of the face comes off below where the screen comes out and it won't turn on or function or anything without that peice attached. And the TV tuner is seperate, I think the KVT911DVD is the only one that65 come WITH the TV tuner already, but it only has a 6.5" face and it is not touch screen and it is also about 2-300 dollars more last time I checked....

You know how old this thread is? I think he used the HU install kit for the HU and then just used mearly a shaved OEM faceplate to cover it. Otherwise the HU would never get in and stay in in the first place.

for what thing. If it is for the HU bracket it probably depends on the make and model. You could probably find the part number on www.crutchfield.com they have all of that stuff. but you stock face comes with the car. he just shaved off the back so it would fit over his new face.
