just out of curiosity, if i had an alpine HU, could i take all of my cd's out of their protective cases, drag them across my paved driveway, scratching the hell out of them, put them in my HU, and have them play like they are brand new?

Excellent choice for the money. My next HU will be an Alpine, when this Kenwood mp3 player dies.

Alpine has an MX mode that tries to compensate for scratched cds. Don't know how well it works though.

MX is media expander, its for mp3's and such... when compressing files, you lose fidelity in the low lows and high highs.... all MX does is boosts bass and treble...
