installation help

I've read the DIY on removing the factory head unit but it doesn't seem to follow for my civic. I have an 02 2dr lx 5spd, from what I can tell, there are 2 bolts/screws holding the cigarette lighter area in place and I can't seem to get the center console to move back far enough to get to those screws. There were 2 screws at the back of the console and 2 clips in the front. It moves but the dash seems to be in the way of lifting the console up, it seems that the console is one entire piece as well. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

i think you're trying to do the wrong thing here...

the piece where the lighter is is just held in by clips. yank harder on it (get one side, then the other, you can pull up then and remove it). remove the harness on the back of the lighter piece to completely remove this panel

there are 2 screws behind it there (use a philips on these, or a ratchet will also work).

you DO NOT NEED to remove the center console to install your stereo on a 2002

DOH!

Honestly it looks like there are 2 screws holding it in because I couldn't get it to budge. I'm going to try the one side at a time thing and see how that works. Thanks for the reply.
