back in may, i bought a
sony Xplod 800W amp(model: xm-D400P5)
and
2 alpine 10" type-E subs (model: SWE-1041)
i cant afford to have it professionally installed so i want to do this by hand.
what i need:
circuit city says to buy their kits which total about $100. i need to know what wires im gonna need and how long they're gonna have to be cuz i know if i do it myself i wont need to spend $100.
i also cant figure out how to take out the head unit for my o2 civic coupe.
i have pictures below of everything i bought so far and my dash. if anyone can help me out i would greatly appreciate it.
2002 civic LX coupe dash
Amp Top
one side of amp
Other side of amp
this is all that came with the amp
side of the box the sub came in.
specs for the sub: 4 ohm impedance
600w peak power handling
200w RMS power handling
Again, any and all help is greatly appreciated. i have no idea what im doing :-p

Walmart has 800 watt amplifier kits for $20 made by Scoshe.
Its cheap and has everything you need.

This would work perfect. I am getting the 1100 watt version for my new truck. I just got two Alpine amps, an M350 and a T220.

im gonna look into that kit from walmart.... does anyone have a simple explanation on how to wire it up?
thanx again for everyone who helped and thanx in advance for those who will be so kind.

plug in the RCA wire to your headunit (the one with the red and white plugs) either into a subwoofer connection or the rear channel outputs.
connect the remote wire (the thin one) to the red wire that comes out of the harness for your head unit (assuming you had it done right here) this should be a 3 way connection now.
you can run these wires together and nothing will happen, should probably run on the passenger side so as to avoid the fuse box under the steering wheel.
don't worry about the clips, it'll just be that much easier next time
the settings on your amp look like they are right, don't know if you knew where to put those or not but they should be right.
be sure to disconnect the positive battery wire before you start. sure you lose your radio stations, but no one likes a fire in their car (this is especially important if you are even slightly unsure as to what you are doing)

first off i wanna thank everyone for helping out. This includes those who responded to other people on other threads that i just found. Without your help i wouldve probably blown my @$$ up!
all i really need now is about 20 bucks for the wiring kit thing and a 60A fuse for the battery (between 6" and 18") i feel so edumacated now :-p
i do, however have more questions about my particular set-up.
if im not mistaken, i have to plug the rca cables into my green box there? from the output of the deck to the input of the amp right?
also, do i have to do anything with the "high level input"?
finally... this is the set-up im looking at:
will the subs sound better the way they are or pointing towards the back?
Thanx again for all your help!

The fuse holder for by the battery is included in the kit. I dunno about the actual 60 amp fuse itself. My guess is yes.
The RCA's go from the "output" on the deck to the "input" on the amplifier.
You won't use the high level inputs since you are using RCA's. You use one or the other and RCA's are definately the better way to go. High levels are more if you don't have a HU with RCA outputs.
Direction is your choice. I prefer facing back. Then you can have the seat up or down. With the seat down they are slightly louder. Others like it facing in. If you face them in you are going to have to have the seat down for good volume. It costs nothing to experiment by turning the box in different directions and see what you like.
Good luck.

Oh, and we can't stress enough ... to prevent altenator whine .....
Power on one side of the car, RCA's on the other. Keep these two wires as far away from each other as possible.
Also make sure the ground wire is as short as possible (2 to 3 feet if possible), very tight, and all the paint is missing where you ground it (I prefer a dremel here to scrape the hell out of the metal for a really good connection).
Have fun.
Remember this stuff isn't really that hard .... just very very time consuming. It will probably take you a full day being your first time.

just an update. ... i woke up this morning... brushed my teeth and next thing i knew... i was upside down in the passenger seat removing the kick panel :-p
after work, i routed the rca and remote amp cable through the drivers side. i had some trouble figuring out where the remote cable went but i checked the book for my cd deck. for my case, the wire was blue with a white stripe... i dont know about other cd decks.
I also attatched the amp to the box....my friend suggested it and it gives me the most out of whats left of my trunk.
Tomorrow morning im gonna route the power cable through the passenger side... the kit i bought cam with an 80A inline fuse.... is that okay or should i buy a 60A fuse to replace it?
Thanks again!
:: edit :: im glad im doing this by hand. i feel so proffesional and i already feel like ive accomplished something.

That fuse will be just fine.
The actual value just has to be equal to or more than all the fuses in the amp. So you need 60 or more.
I am using a 140 amps circuit breaker for my two amps .... 20 and 40 amp, so 60 total ...

Its all done and it sounds great. I cant thank everyone enough for your input. Ill have pics up tomorrow if anyone is interested. Nothing custom but it makes me happy :-)
I started my truck today. So far I have all the amp wiring in. Tomorrow is the HU and then I start on the big project. Putting subs in the rear doors (cutting out the door panel and making a custum box for inside).
fun fun fun
