thats one of the most important parts. find out what it is for the sub, multiply by 2 and find an amp from a reputable company that will put that out rms.

If they are the original W3's then the RMS is 250, if they are the W3v2 then the RMS is 300. Either way, look for an amp that does 500-600 watts RMS. W3's dont like too much over their RMS power (I know from experience). And they WILL slam with 500 watts even if it's the v2.

basically you need an amp that will do 500 rms at 2 ohms...

what budget are you looking at?

I would recommend either a Rockford 500DB,around into a 2ohm load. Great amps, used a 100DB to power 3 JL 12W6's with no problem and you can find them around for about 300 bucks. The other choice I would suggest would be an Orion HCCA series, probably a 250, The nice thing about the HCCAs is that its 1ohm stable in a mono loadand at a 1ohm load it will put out 800 watts RMS.

If you really wanted more power then you can get the Rockford 1001DB amp for a nice 1000 watts RMS at a 2ohm load. Dont worry about dropping the ohmage too much the Fosgates can handle a 1ohm load, no matter what they say, you just have to make sure its in a good spot with air flow to keep it cool

Rockford's are garbage, dont bother wasting your time or money. Get a Phoenix Gold or JL amp. That's the way to go.

Rockfords are great amps. PG, please I have seen soo many of those smoke and melt when trying to push subs. I never once had a problem with my RF amp pushing my W6's. RF will give you raw power to push those subs. Example, 3 12 W6's in a ported box in the back of my explorer and one RF 1000BD amp = 157.8 with amp about 3/4 turned up. Wired down to a 1.5ohm load. I'd like to see a PG amp do that. JL amps are nice though, just over priced

You're right, Phoenix Gold amps are garbage, they wont get you anymore. They smoke and melt too much. Oh oops, what's this? I think I was using a phoenix gold amp to power my 2 JL 10W3s, and what was the outcome? Thank you! Next time quit looking through the Best Buy ads for good selling amps, the best amps come from audio shops, and the best advice comes from people who actually know what they're talking about. Thank you!

EDIT: July 2003, Extreme Autofest, IASCA Sound Off
BTW: My box was still sealed too, not even ported.

Little Boy,

If you only knew that best buy sucks major ****. Thats great that you have had great luck with your PG, personally I dont like them, My friends have cooked them many times over trying to drop it to a 1ohm load mono, which sadly those amps are not meant to handle, they just arent. Just curious what are you hitting? You better be able to back it up with a cert too, none of this " Oh I'm louder then that" crap I do see that its an ISACA comp, I have been to a few over here on the East coast. Also been to many of the DBdrags, most recently I won the Kenwood sponsored BD drag held at World Wide Strereo in Montgomeryville, PA in the 1000 watt and under class, with a rockford amp. Please next time you want to try and insult make sure I know nothing about car audio, I have been doing this for about 9 years now. I know plenty

Cooking amps just goes to show that 1) you dont have the knowledge to know what your system CAN and CANNOT take, and 2) you have horrible skills at doing an install job OR 3) you actually PAID somebody to do your install job (which is a no-no). 9 years knowing about audio and you suggest Rockford? Wow! I knew to stay away from Rockford having about 9 days of experience with audio. I'm not here to argue, nor am I going to waste my time. Everybody has their own opinion, I was just merely showing that every1 has their own opinion, and showing that PG amps are underrated if anything.

EDIT: BTW, who you callin little boy? Seems like the n00bs with 7 posts are always trying to show up the Big Dogs. Welcome to 2k1civic, kid.

Steve,

I'm not here to argue with you or anything bro. First off yes I am a n00b to this site, cant hide that fact. Second off, Any amp should be able to handle a 1 Ohm load with the proper cool and tuned correctly ( ie not pushing it too hard ) Third, I know how to install my stereo, I think its kind funny you should say that when you have a pre-made JL box for your, Afraid to add a little custom to your setup? Fourth, I would never pay some clown to do my car stereo install, me and my buddy spend a week setting up my trunk to fit my 4 10's and my two amps, yes it can be done in the back of a vic. Before you even start on me about the explorer, It was only a lease and had to be traded back in and sadly a 6 cubic foot box would not have fit in the back of a vic so that had to go as well, but was replaced with 4 subs now. Again I'm not trying to argue, he asked, I answered. Also I never said anything bad about JL amps or anything, nice amps but for a 1000/1 amp its like 600 bucks

All right, we'll bury the beef.

Back to the topic, you should go to your local audio store and check them out. Well, if you already have the wiring for your amp installed, places most of the time (at least this is what i did), plug and played with different amps, and see what the best was. The best they have there is never always the best you can get, i learned that the hard way. You're the only who's going to have to system and you're the one that's gonna be listening to it, get what you like, just take suggestions into considerations, but dont necessarily act on them.

you wont need a cap under any circumstances with any car audio install ever.
for box, i'd keep it sealed.
as to the amp not blowing, an amp blows because of human stupidity, not because of amp quality.
