Question Constant Power to HU

2003 Civic Coupe

I was retarded and forgot to wire to constant power to pioneer deh-p7500mp. I wired power to the yellow/red (radio switch) as noted in the wiring guide.

What color wire in that stock radio harness should I be wiring to for constant power.

Or do I have to wire a lead to the battery?

I think you need to have a new wire going directly from the HU to the battery with your new HU.

you shouldn't have to run a new wire....i vbelieve the RED is the IGNITION wire while the YELLOW is the constant power. I may have mixed those 2 up, but my point is wires already exist for that. Now that you ran a new wire to your HU, make sure there is a fuse in there, the constant power wire avaialble runs thru your fuse box. If you short that new wire anywhere, bad things will happen !

Re: the wiring database supplied on this site:
Radio 12V (ignition) is white/red
Radio Switch is yellow/red
Radio Illuminate is red/black

Re: Pioneer Insallation Guide
Constant Power: Yellow (I connected to yellow/red)
Iginition (12V): Red (I connected to white/red)
Lighting Switch Terminal: Orange/white (I connected to red/black)

Now I have a line running to the battery (maybe I should look into a fuse), so my problem is basically solved. (...or is it...)

What confuses me is how did my stock HU remember my settings... it must've also had a constant power source...?

What kind of fuse should I get?

I think your HU is always getting power as well from one fo the wires. The thing is, those stock wires that are on the harness are many times too small. It depends on the aftermarket HU really, my alpine runs 60x4, which my stock wires cannot handle, thus a new wire to the battery of greater size fixes the problem. Your manual should tell you exactly what to do.

sorry to inform you man, but your deck is NOT putting out 60Wx4. The stock wires are plenty big for the actual power being delivered by the head unit. Don;t believe me, ask Whiterabbit, Ludham Theory, they'll back me.

you want 60x4, buy an amp

The actual fuse rating doesn't matter really, your const only draws MINIMAL current (i'd bet WAAAAY less than 1A. You can put any size in bigger than that, its mostly so that if you short the wire to the chassie, it will blow before your battery unloads on your car

Alright. My HU is finally a done deal.
It only took a week to get everything out of the system... it's not bad for a newb.... who am i kidding... what a miserable waste of time.

Thanks for the help.

I got AM reception going good, powered HU with a fuse, and everything's just dandy now.

Thanks again
