Hey everyone, I currently have a HiFonics ZX6000 amp, 150Wx2@4Ohms. I also currently have a JL Audio XR component set. The continuous power handling on the JLs is 70W, and I have already blown out one of my mids. Basically, I have been told that my amplifier is too powerful for my speakers and I will just blow the other mid out. The thing is, in the manual that came with my speakers, it recommends an amplifier that is between 25W-150W. I currently have my amplifier gain set to 4V and im not turning up the volume all the way so I don't clip the speaker signal. Now, if you all think that im ok with the way my amplifier is set and the way im running my speakers, then please tell me that I will probably not blown my JL mids once I get a replacement for the blown one. If you think that I will still blow my mids, then I was wondering if I got a set of Focal Polyglass 165V Component Speakers, will they be able to handle the power better? The specs say that the max power handling is 150W, and with my gain set at 4V, it seems like these may be a better set than the JL XRs. Id really appreciate the help.

my HEX components are suppose to handle 20-170watts RMS and at one point was giving them 300watts each, and it didn't seem to bug them much. my local shop sells JL XR components with 300/2 amps all the time, and they never have problems. i'm thinking that the 150watts your giving is fine, you probably had a bad pair of speakers (i dunno, could happen), or maybe your playing your speakers too loud for too long (what you think isn't that loud may be what i think is too loud). i really wouldn't know what to say, you can give them another shot, or sell them and get another set of speakers, personally, i would give the XR's another shot (i'm the kind of person that needs TWO blown speaker sets to learn my lesson)

You need to pay attention to rms vs peak figures.

Your amp is 150 rms and 300 max, the JL speakers are 70rms and 150 max.

If the Focals are 150 max then its no different than the JLs. However like the Diamond HEX's if it says 170 rms, you should be fine.

I have a Kicker 150.2, which at 4 ohms is really only 75x2 max on my Diamond M6 Components. Thats more than enough. Can't even turn the gain up past half way and its defening.

focal polyglass can handle some power. focal polykevlar can handle even MORE power.
boston pro's can also handle a hefty power load, but they are a bit pricey

I guess ill just stick with the JL XRs for right now and not clip the signal, they shouldn't blow out if im careful this time around.

No matter what you get, if you crank it and keep clipping the signal your going to blow stuff.
