2003 Headunit installation (2003 ONLY not 2001 or 2002 they are not the same)

obviously this topic is back up for a reason... its because a 2001 civic interior is different from a 2003 civic interior... no one has covered this topic completely...

if u look at the interiors side by side... they are very similiar but they ahve there obvious differences...

so can anyone please give a helping word... for the car's stereo removal (2003 civic)... thanks

I just did it for a MT model (my own). It's VERY easy, and goes as follows:

1. Open cup holders, say a small prayer (if a member of a traditional religion. Otherwise, kill a chicken).

2. Remove shift boot from ****, unscrew. If it's an AT model, I think the trim ring comes up and then everything else is the same.

3. Pull up on shift boot. Pull HARD. There are about 6 clips that will come up. The entire center piece will come off.

3a. Look at the way the cool shifter works! (MT model only)

4. Remove two screws from the U-shaped piece of trim. They are on either side, about 2/3 of the way to the dash.

5. Remove 6 clips from the side of the trim. You will see these. You can use a SMALL (read: SMALL!) hammer to knock them out softly.

6. Pull TOWARDS THE CENTER OF THE CAR (NOT the sides) on the rest of the piece. It should come off with relatively little effort.

7. Remove 2 screws from the underside, as with the 2001/2002 models.

8. Remove the dash the same as the 2001/2002 models.

9. Open beer.

10. Drink.

No problem, it really is a lot easier than you think. Don't force anything, but you do have to pull hard.

I didn't take pics when I did it, but it's really not that bad. It was my first ever stereo removal.

Can anyone explain this better? Does the oval ring around the shift boot come out or the entire center console?

3. Pull up on shift boot. Pull HARD. There are about 6 clips that will come up. The entire center piece will come off.

you do not have to remove the shift know, just pry up (carefully) the plastic plate that is around the shift know (NOT THE SILVER PIECE, THE SQUARE BLACK ONE) and youll see screws and continue with his instructions. save time and effory by not removing the shift ****.

Yeah, I found that out the hard way that you didn't have to remove the boot. The square piece is just held in by tension clips.

I have a Honda Civic Type S..2003 ans have had the front panel off (behind the gear shifter) and then dropped the glove box and removed the fuse box cover...I am then able to see the screws that are located either side of the stereo but am unable to fit my hands in to use any tools to remove them..any ideas folks??

This is not my video but it really helped me out. I know it's for a 2004 but from what i've read about pulling the trim around the shifter off, it sounds the same. If anything, you could use it as a reference for that part. good luck.

I removed my 2003 DX radio following a 2002 radio removal video :

But if you say it's not like the 2002, then follow the 2004 video :
