my amp shuts off....
i have 3 12's with a rockford bd1000 and my highs are being amped by a rockford 500x. i noticed that when im listening to music loud my highs shut off but my bass stays on WTF? it shuts off for a second comes back on then shuts off again....it goes on and off like that, whats the problem with my amp? or is it the wiring? i have all stinger wires rca, power and ground wires....4 gauge wires everything is up to par all teh wires are snug so i know it cant be the wires. whats goin on here? and how do i fix the problem?
Does the amp have good air circulation around it? Sounds like its going into thermal protection over and over again. Could also be a bad ground, or remote wire. Check to see if any of the lights on the amp change color when it stops playing, or if the amp is actually shutting off. It might also be wired incorrectly....you could be presenting the wrong ohm load to the amp.

how do i know if its the wrong ohm? i also felt the amp and its really hot........you think by adding a fan it could help? im ready to throw my system out the window, i cant listen to my radio during the day
err...to check ohms you would have to show us a wiring diagram on how you wired it....or you could use a digital multi meter.
A fan might help....are your amps in a small area with limited airflow? I would check the power/status lights on the amp when it shuts off to see if the amp is going thermal or if its just a bad remote line or somehting.
