Anyone know how too install Footwell Lamps?

as topic states...

and also.... was thinking of buying a couple neons tubes and use them as footwell lamps... but they plug into the cig lighter...

is there anyway of hooking them up using the dome light wiring? so when the door opens the footwell lamp turns on too..

and getting some sorta switch to turn the neons on be great too...

Thanx

You might want to consider using some SuperBright LEDs instead of neon. The leds come in colors and are probably even brighter. Plus they're cheap, hard to break, cool to touch, use little power, and easy to mount and wire-in. I'm thinking about mounting some myself in the footwells and possibly hidden in the headliner or rear footwells to light up the rear of the car.
Here's another link you might want to check out. These are made for computers, but computers also run on 12volt, so it shouldn't be a problem. If you get them at an electronics supply or radioshack, be sure to get the 12v.
About wiring them...I'm not sure if you can tap into a wire behind the kickpanel or not. Maybe someone else could enlighten us. You could always run a wire from the dome light down the A-pillar, but that would be a lot of work.

Well i have not researched this yet...but u can easily hard wire the power and ground to ur fuse box in the drivers side. Sort-a Ghetto rigged...but it is really simple and unless someone takes the box cover off they would never see the wires ran. Some people wire their radars to the ignition fuse....i think (but not 100% sure....why i stated i have not resurched this yet above) that the dome light fuse is in the same panel.....which would entail...grounding the black wire and the stripping the red and placing it on the fuse for the dome lights. PLug her in and anytime the car activates the dome lights power will be sent to ur led's!

Thats how one of my frineds has his interior lighting spliced....so it all comes on with the dome lights.....and then he built a relay for it to go to a switch so he can turn it on without having to turn on the dome lights.

Hope it helps....and just check to see if the dome light is in the fuse box within the car.

Mine are wired to a relay that is triggered when the car turns on by the cig lighter circuit. You could use it off the dome light or anything else with 12v power....a switch is easy to wire as well....

the easiest place to hack in is to the door pinswitch itself, its a ground switch. you can use that ground pulse to fire a relay, which will control the main line for the neons.

with a small diode put in place of one of the pinswitches (the wires run just under and in front of the rear bench) you cna even isolate each door pinswitch while maintaining full oem functionality of the vehicle, so that each neon opens up only when you open that door.

for specifics on how ot wire a relay, if you dont already know, chekc the forums around here, I wrote a very very complete relay diy in tech stuff a while back, also check out http://www.eatel.net/~amptech/elecdisc/
