custom trunk sub box

I want to build a trunk box for my subs like derek's. I only want to do the middle blue part around the subs not the amp, cap, wires. What materials and tools do i need for this and how how do i do it? About how much will the materials cost? I have read the diy, but how do u cut two perfect 11" holes?

DIY protractor.

Actually, just make a quick device out of wood or something. Take a thin board, and measure 5.5 inches apart. Drill a small hole at each point.

Place a sharp object, like a thin screwdriver through one hole, and hold it tight to anchor it. Place a pencil through the other hole and start protracting! (Draw circle using board and pencil.)

Jigsaw, baby. . . . just take it slow and steady once the lines are drawn. Nice thing is. . . if you think you're not going to cut it smooth, favor the inside of the circle. . . you can always shave more off once you've got the big center of it out.

I think he used some really thick plexy for that part....with some neons below. Just my thought. I am guessing he built a box and then used the plexy for the top. possible a fiberglass job, and then sealing the plexy to the box.....then inserting the subs into the plexy. May be wrong but thats what it looks like.

mdf is the main piece i believe... that could be either thick white plexi or a thick lexan... i made a trunk floor and had a clear window, mine however is an amp enclosure... i will probably be buying a digi cam tomorrow so i can take some pics of it... also, use a clear adhesive and per-drilled holes and screws to attach it from the back... i cut mine with a roto zip, it worked great... you can also use a jig saw, or a sawzall, anything that will allow you to make a curved cut... be warned though that getting the entire trunk floor in with out having to piece it requires a lot of effort and imagination to manuver it in there... this could become a labor intensive project... i believe it took me around 6 or so working hours to cut mine and attach the plexi and all that good stuff, but not all at one time, i worked on it a little bit each night for about a week and a half...

if i were doing it, id do it somewhat like the drawing. naturally, there woul be a hole in the trunk floor, the same shape as dereks. the plexyglass would be .75 inch thick, a big square, with the cutouts and holes drilled.

id have a plastics shop do that for mey, they will easily do any sort of work like that and more!

id either use white plexi ot clear with a heavy blue tint, plastics shops have all sorts of plexi to choose from. looks like derek has a translucent blue.

the box would either have no top, or a top with a hole cut in it, and the plexi sitting over that. youd never see the border, teh trunk floor would rest on top of that.

the trunk floor would be padded by its carpet and rest by gravity over the box. the plexi would be bolted using machine screws.

so would the subwoofers.

then add neons!
