K series or B series...i dont know
ok i have finally made up my mind about what i am gonna do... first it was turbo the D series engine that we have or go with an engine swap and maybe turbo that later. well i decided to do an engine swap, the only problem is what should i get. the B16 engine that comes in the 99' SI (DOHC V-Tech) or the RSX non Type-S (DOHC V-Tech) engine. They both come with 160 HP and are both V-Tech.... i just need a little help deciding.
Thanks

First off you can not swap a B16 into your civic and it be legal. If you have a 2001 than you can swap a B18 from a 2001 integra. second off just to let you know so you don't get flamed........Search. Click on the search button and type in swap and you will find lots of useful info. And its Vtec. Not V-Tech. V-Tech is a brand of a phone.

sorry, I'm trying to be nice.
But also to give you a suggestion, if you go with the K-series motors, get a K20A2(RSX type S). It is going to cost you the same amount in labor so might as well get a better motor for a little bit more.

Let's be nice.
Yes what jodster said is true. You'd be hard pressed to even find a shop that would swap in a B16 to a 2001+ civic. As stated, it's illegal. Your cheapest and best route for a swap (and really the only viable option) is the K20 engine.

i thought it was only illegal to swap older engines in states with emissions testing (like california and other states).
still though to answer your question, if your going to get the base rsx engine, and not the type-s, i would still get the k20. i love the b-series, but no replacement for displacement

Hey guys, quick question that is pretty much related to this thread. Is it possible to do the k20 swap if you have an '01 automatic civic lx and can find an automatic k20 with tranny? If so, what all is needed (besides ECU and wiring harness)? The reason I ask is because I am saving right now for either the engine swap or the d17 turbo from turbodiscounters.com. I am not trying to build a racer or anything just want more get up and go. Now, supposing this is possible with the swap anyone able to recommend a source to get a k20 from (besides ebay)?
Thanks for any help

i cant believe no one said anything...yes the B16 has 160hp, but the K20A2 has 200hp.
I'll make the decision real easy for you ok?
The k20A2 is the wave of the future. It responds so well to after market parts it makes my friend with a 97 prelude sick. With I/H/E and an ECU upgrade you have easily over 200whp (thats wheel horse power). You would have to turbo, and run high boost on the B16 to get that power. Plus, HASport already has the mounts for the k-series to make it an easy drop in, good luck with the B16...custom fab. the mounts, and then figure everything else out.
the answer you are looking for should be obvious...if not, get the K20A2 (RSX-S) motor.

wow sorry, i just read over your question more carefully. Ok, well yes they both have the 160hp, but why go with the non type S? that jsut doesnt seem like the right thing to do.
sorry about what i just typed, i didnt read all that you wrote...so dont flame. but you should still get the S motor.
