Performance Muffler without the sound?! Does it happen??
I just bought a 2002 ex coupe, I have modified a neon before, my previous car before someone hit me head on. The exhaust note got really annoying at high speeds. I want to put a muffler on this car, but I dont want the annoying exhaust noise. I want performance, nothing else, looks dont matter....would a rsx type s muffler or si muffler make a significant improvement in air flow???? any suggestions???

the Tanabe Rspec is the best catback on the market for this car. It provides the best Hp gains as well as torque gians. ITs a low deep throaty sound and comes with a silencer if you want to lessen the exhaust noise. YOu can get them for ~500-550 shipped

You get proformance by making it easier for the exhaust gases to escape like having larger diameter piping. Puting on a Muffer from a RSX or SI isnt going to help at all really. Just get a catback with a tone you like. Just check the thread in this section. I like my Greddy.
It isnt ricey. Nice and low. No angry bumbee sound. No pops when it peaks. The Evo is made more for Turbos and HP wise the Tanabe as stated is the best. Good Luck.

i made a diy silencer for my muffler. all you need is aluminum foil and a couple of paper clips. the peeps wont even know you have a silencer. first, wrap several layers (like 20) around a coke can. mold it a lil and then put it directly in the smaller hole inside your muffler. make sure it is far enough in there so it exposes some of the tiny holes in the muffler. now jam some paper clips there sideways in the holes, the upper holes, connecting the lower holes and then the ones side to side. this is so the silencer doesnt fall off. it should look like a cross configuration: the octagon is the aluminum foil
1 and = are paper clip wires

works perfect on my muffler. hope this helps

I guess I have to buy a tanabe or hks, though I thought that the si or rsx muffler would have made a significant difference, seeing that they were made for cars with a higher displacement.

I just received my DC Sports TCS yesterday and it's going on tommorrow, first thing. My brother and I are going to go up to the Honda dealer where he works and we're gonna use the lifts and crap to do it right. I can't wait.
Also, you guys are saying that the Tanabe is the best exhaust for our car? I have a couple of questions for you:
1) Do you have any dyno sheets that can prove this claim that we can actually see?
2) Was the same car used for each exhaust or were their different cars with each exhaust on them that they dynoed? This makes a *big* difference as each car will respond differently to each mod.
3) What time of day were the dynoes run? Different times of day will make a big difference in a dyno run too as the air is less dense/more dense due to cold and heat. This will affect how the engine runs and this affect the actual dyno run.

i don't see how tempature change would impact that much on a frickin civic dyno
consider a change of 24 degrees cooler on the intake charge of a turbo mr2 only yield 15 more hp(after ic), what would the difference be on a civic? 1? 2? maybe 4?

skipping all the tater tot comments
and tanabe/dyno arguement
your Civic won't be as loud as your neon
becuase the displacement isn't as big.
I went from a 2.0L (probe) to a 1.7L(civic)
I wish the civic were louder.
