Exhaust sounds bad...

I got an OBX B3 muffler installed today with new 2.25 pipes. It is WAY too loud. I put in the silencer thinking that it wasn't gonna be loud anymore and it was still too loud. SHould I go back and put my resonator in? I'm kinda pissed off cause my car looks good and I don't want it to sound like crap. the look of te stock exhaust wasn't cutting it. HELP how do I make it not sound so loud? Should I just buy a new exhaust?

Well OBX exhausts are loud, whether it be just the muffler or the catback. You can try to install the resonator, but then you will just have an axle back, but it will still probably be loud. Look into Aerospeed, 5 zigen fireball, or Apex N1 mufflers. Or you can get the HKS axle back and it might fit with the OBX piping.

This would all have been avoided if you would have joined the family and gotten a Tanabe R-Spec.

Go back to the muffler shop and have them weld a 18-20" resonator.

yah if i had the money i'd go with tanabe...but TOCA..i installed my B3 axle back today. so the resonator is still on, and yes its loud with the silencer off. but i like the sound. it rumbles and is deep and clean sounding. with the silencer in..its only loud at 1500 - 2000rpm...then my intake can be heard over the exhaust. try puttin the resonator on...it should help alot.

You should of just went for the "Rice" look. Meaning just get the rear section done... Leaving everything else stock.

Had too many bad luck with them. Stopped fooling with ehaust back around 1972.

And you are right. Loud exhaust on long trip gives noise fatigue. I need to conserve all the engery I can.

I had a new '65 Ford Ranchero with a 289 V-8 motor. I thought it would be kewl to get dual ehausts. The sedan front pipes fit and I had the rears custom made. This was when scavenger pipes (mufflers up front and straight pipes back and under the axle to the bumper). Had that all put on with s set of small glass packs. Well I had that exhaust for about 2 weeks and it sounded awesome. Then one day I crossed the bridge into West Virginia and ran that thing out in second gear. It was really howling and really talked loud when I backed off. Then I met a deputy coming the other way. Went to see the JP and it cost me $50 fine and I had to go through the parts books and find a set of quiet mufflers that would fit that custom made abortion. No more duals with glass packs for me. No more loud mufflers. No more not so good fitting systems rattling under my car.

I did, however stick a Thrush muffler on the back of a '71 Pinto. It sounded like a heard of bumblebees when it was wound out.
