exhaust on stock engine

i find myself in a unique situation relative to most people on here. my car is startin to look pretty good and stock exhaust looks pathetic. i am goin all show and no go. i have a stock engine, and most of the clips available are on modded engine's or SIs. what would be a good choice for catback exhaust for me? I DONT WANT BUMBLE BEE PIPES. i just want the deepest sound that doesnt sputter. since my engine isnt pushin much, that might be hard, but any suggestions? thanx in advance

I'm goin through the same thing. I'm looking for a cat back system that offers increased horse power, but does'nt sound like a 747 takin off! I've had my eye on the GReddy EVO exhaust system, but i'm open to suggestions.

pick up a knock-off 5zigen stainless steel exhaust at pac-mall.. it's totally bolt-on (no custom pipes, etc... no nothing)... just bolt off, then bolt on... has a nice silencer that comes with it and it's only 300bux!

here's a suggestion.........move to arizona. but seriously, maybe you should get some custom 2.5 inch piping and a muffler that does not look like a crome civil war cannon (unless you're into that foolishness). i have heard that the results are pretty good. that way you can customize the sound and look you want you want.

usually the custom piping and muffler setup is loud as a mother ****er tho. thats what i have heard. unless you get a muffler with a silencer. i dont like the looks of the mufflers with the silencers though. just my opinion.

I'm pretty sure there's a group buy right now for a magnaflow cat-back system and that's selling for $300 shipped. I got mine at the last GB. I think it sounds alright but I'm sure it sputters though.

Full cat-back right? Not just the worthless muffler; civil-war or not. Tsudo Performance Fireball w/ adjustable silencer. Give it a run with or without the silencer and you won't believe the HP gained on that stock engine. Worried about noise...Silencer! Want more boost... lose the silencer and I'll give you a couple trips 'round the block before that ruckus turns righteous. Enjoy! Or, umm, spend $200 dollars more and get the same thing from 5zigen.

Be awear of cat-back! make sure the piping is bent right or your going to get some rattling and thumping at times, usually when the car is cold. if you dont care much for roar go with just the muffler and stock piping!

Thanx to all of you for your advice (except for the Arizona move!!). Its hard to get info you can trust. The manufactures will tell anything to sell thier product. I think my biggest concern is sound volume. Cops round here pinch ya $110 for too much noise. However, I need the boost. There's this loser in a 1989 Nissan 240 who wants a peice of me, and I need to represent.

I am getting an EVO but only because I am only paying $250 and that's including shipping. I would rather have a Tanabe! But I have never seen a EVO rust. My brother has one on his 97 for 4 years and it hasn't rusted a bit.

I'm not big on aftermarket exhausts, but if I was going to buy one I'd take a serious look at Apexi World Sport, for being close to stock.
