Question Painting Carbon Fiber??

Hey guys,

I want to get a Carbon Fiber hood so that I can get a nifty hood scoop and a lighter front...However the thing I just can't get over is that I am going to have this big black hood on my nice white car. I don't know, but I just like one uniform color on my car. Is there a way to paint carbon fiber? Or will I have to just setting for the black hood? Also I heard that there is a lighter (almost white) form of carbon fiber....But what are the odds of finding a hood made outta that?

as far as i know you can paint carbon fiber
but i think they make it in different colors too.
why dont you think about getting a fiberglass hood
and then just having it painted to match the car.

You can paint a CF hood. It looks pretty cool. I'll try to find a pic. www.nopionline.com sells colored CF hoods.

How much is the weight savings with CF hood? Are you stripping out the car to race or something?

You only lose about 15 pounds by getting a CF hood considering how short our hoods are to begin with.

Yeah..

I tried finding good looking FiberGlass hoods for our cars, however I have not found anything until I went to that site. Those hoods look pretty nice. I wonder if it's actually painted in White of the color that Honda puts on our cars, or if it needs to be painted (see bwlow link for the one I am looking at). That's cool, as least I know that Carbon Fiber can be painted...Thanks!

White Carbon Fiber would rule

FiberGlass Hood

you can paint the carbin fiber hood with a mix of a light white color making it almost transparent but still able to see the fibers. Its not cheap tho

you should paint the hood on the sides rite before it starts to raise up. so then u have a big wide strip of carbon fiber going down the hood and meeting with the grill (BTW you should get a carbon fiber altezza grill or a black one so it would match). it looks really nice that way.

don't paint it, paint weights too much

why do you see ricers with primered cars?
because they know the paint weights them down

I believe the white form of carbon fiber you heard of was a titanium hood. They weave it the same way as the carbon fiber but it’s a whitish/silver color. If you could even find one there super expensive but lighter & stringer than carbon fiber. I have actually seen some of the titanium weave at my friend’s custom airbrush shop. He may get a job painting a bike for Shac from a shop down the street. Shac’s bike will be covered in this titanium weave and painted (some spots will show the weave through). If your really interested I will take a photo of the piece next time I stop by.

As far as painting the carbon fiber hood goes: If you doing it for weight don't paint it, but if its for look paint it all the way or paint the sides.

Man, paints weighs too much??? Maybe we should strip all the paint from our cars and our quarter times will decrease by .01 seconds. What's the weight of paint on the hood, like 1lb? We should all drive in speedos to maximize the potential of our cars too.

If you want to be a trendy then leave your CF hood. If you want it to be a sleeper then paint it. Don't listen to these "it adds weight" posts. CF hoods on a white car are the "in" thing to do, if that's what you like.

You can paint the hood, but it might cost a little more than normal because CF's harder to paint on. Paint tends to come off easier on CF.
