Venom400 or JET?
Venom400 or JET?
Which one is better? I don't know much about Jet, except that you ship your ECU to them and they reprogram it for you. And from what I've read, the Venom 400 pretty much only allows you to get to WOT quicker, and it seems that people are 50/50 about whether it even really helps or not. I have a V-AFC, although I haven't installed it yet b/c I'm waiting for Apexi to figure out the V-tec wiring for our cars. But considering that, would that make the Venom 400 kind of a moot point since I'll already be to adjust the fuel curves with the V-AFC? Sorry for sounding like an idiot, but I'm kinda clueless when it comes to ECU's.......
Venom 400 doesn't do much. It may allow a bit more initial timing advance at 2/3 to full throttle by fooling the ECU. I have one, and it maybe takes 0.1 sec. off the 1/4 mile times. It does seem to give a bit more pep at 60 to 80 MPH about time that the Vtec kicks in.
The V-chip sounds better to me, since they claim to have curves for different levels of mods. I think it will also eliminate the rev limiter. For what that's worth.
Word is that the VAFC problems have been worked out. I don't have first hand experience on this though. All I've seen from VAFC is that when you lower the VTEC engagement point, all you get is a spike in the power curve and that is of no benefit. I suppose if you have other mods, the fuel map and ignition curve adjustments might be helpful.
There used to be some threads around here on most of the above stuff.

If you already have VAFC, check with Apexi and see if they don't have that wiring problem solved.
My personal thought has been to buy a used ECU, and send it off for a chip job. That way I could run stock and compare to the Jet and decide wich way I want to go. Also if selling the car could put the stock back in and then sell the Jet ECU separately.
