intake and drive-trough car-wash question...

For those who have SRI's (not even sure if the water reaches up to the SRI filter) or CAI's, had any problems with water getting into the intakes (especially with the CAI's)? This isn't exactly a question for me, since all i have is a K&N drop in filter... my classmate is really worried about getting water into his CAI due to the fact that these drive-through car-washer blast a whole load of water under your car to get the salt and grime off... he asked me if it was okay to bring his car into one of them drive-through washes, and all i could say was i'm not really sure...

Some people have lives and don't have time to wash their cars.

it gets pretty cold here in Ontario though (-30 degrees C)... can't always wash our cars on our driveways... and we have to wash our cars here at least once a month to make sure the nasty salt doesn't eat away our paint and rust the metal (also, it's really hard to wash the underside with just a hose)... can't wait till it warms up so i can wash and wax my car! it's covered in salt and slush!

nywayz, hey i didn't think about turning off the car in the carwash lol! btw, touchless!

ummm, dont worry at all, your intake wont suck up any water unless the filter is about 3/4 submerged, and you got WOT

he even thought about putting back the stock airbox everytime he goes through them drive-thru washes

talk about a weird friend. he "babies" the car, yet he takes them to a car wash? AND he'll take the time to reinstall the stock airbox?

why the hell wouldn't he just remove his cai in the winter anyways?
and then he wouldn't have this problem at all. and in the summer or spring put it back on when he starts 2 wash his car outside on the driveway again!
i think that would be the smartest thing to do!

guys guys guys, the tb plate wont even move unless you push the gas, so just don't push the gas when your in the puddles n' stuff. thats my solution, one time I accidently went into a big flooded area with my dropped car, my car went with ease cuz I didn't push the pedal.

Just tell him that it is common sense. Like someone had stated, the throttle body is almost completely shut when you are off the gas. Therefore there is not enough of a vaccuum to suck up a substantial amount of water. Even if you did actually step on the gas in the car wash there would not be enough water entering the intake to cause dammage to the engine. For the most part the filter has to be almost completely submerge in water to hydrolock the engine.

I hate those car washes... a few weeks ago it was like -20 and my car was really salty so i decided to go through one. It was one of the touchless ones, and what it did was put a coat of that wax over the salt... sposed to be warm tomarow so maby i can wash it then

I've used a touchless automatic whenever I get a lot of mud/dirt on my car, and it cleans it off pretty well. I like the under carriage wash it does too. Also a very powerful blow dry system was just installed at the end of the wash too.
