question to people who have performance parts...

ok i did some searching and a lot of reading and i find a lot of people dont make sense in what they say. i looked up a lot of posts concerning performance parts, exhausts, intakes, headers, etc.. and people are all "intakes wont get you anything but a 1 hp gain" and "exhausts wont get you but 3 maybe 4 hp gain" and blah blah blah, but yet when you look up these peoples cars on readers rides THEY HAVE THE SAME PARTS THEY ARE SAYING DONT DO ANYTHING!! so if a $600 exhaust only gives you 3 HP, why the hell would you waste your money on it?? seems like a huge waste of money to spend approx. $1000 for like 5 horsepower? so whats the point of getting any aftermarket stuff for our cars?

It's simply a hobbie. Others spend hundreds of dollars on baseball cards, stamps, video games, etc. while we spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on our cars. Nobody ever said it was a cheap hobbie....

i'm not into my car!?!?!? LOL!!!! thats funny. i love my car, my car comes before all...except hot chicks. but why buy a part then turn around and bash it when someone asks if it will get you a higher horsepower? THATS what i dont get. i've bough lowering springs for my car and plan on getting an intake, exhuast, rims, bodykit etc.., i'm one of you fool! i know a $190 injen CAI wont do anything for me but i'm getting cuz of bragging rights. but i'm not gonna buy it and tell someone its ****.

by ****, you mean that it doesnt add much horsepower? I think people say that Intake or Exhaust wouldnt do much in increasing horsepower. I mostly see people bash whatever it is bc some think that adding an intake will make a civic alot faster. Like what others said before me, modding cars is a hobby.

My car is slow. I've come to accept that, I will never be able to beat Mustangs, etc. With nitrous, I might have a chance on some integras and automatic regular 'stangs. Yet i still drop hundreds of dollars into my car. I have 3 reasons: 1)I figure if I can make my car faster then a stock 7th gen civic, off the line, then my mission is successful. 2)Chicks. Chicks dig guys with fixed up cars. (At least I hope so....) 3)Its a hobby. Its fun. I mean, I love getting a new part, then digging under the hood to install it. I think getting a part put on is half the fun.

So whenever I buy a new part, say my Injen intake, I tell myself "Yes I only gained 2-3 horsies... but thats 2-3 more horsies then a stock civic." Makes me feel better. Now i've had a few so I'll see if this post makes sense in the morning

I agree with Ghetto, I don't mod my civic to make it faster or to brang about all the little horsies I have under the hood. If I wanted it to be faster I would either do a turbo engine swap or just not buy a civic. I do it for the pure enjoyment of completing a project. Every vehicle I have ever owned has been customized in one way or another, and usually when I am all done and can't really do anything else to it...... I sell it , get a new car and start all over again.

Its because we know the parts we buy won't increase hp to what some expect, we do it because we want to be different from the rest.

Obviously you wouldn't tell them its ****. Most people who are answering questions about hp gains are answering New Members who think all these aftermarket parts will produce hp on a D17. We as veteran owners already know this and are tired of dealing with the same old questions.

woah some people spend money with funky reasons!

not really being different when everyone and their mom has altezza or an aftermarket intake...

in either case its your money spend it however you want. if a $500 cat-back system makes someone happy.. then *shrug* as long as they're not hurting anyone else, breaking a law... why not?

expensive hobby, if you ask me.

the things I buy for my car... generally so I can enjoy the car better when I commute in it... thats about it.

Your thread title implies you have a question. However, your posts indicate you have a statement, one about the collective members of this forum. It's like walking into a room full of prople you don't know where everyone is already in a conversation and criticizing them. Not a really bright thing to do for a noob.

You can get just as many poster points by posting on already existing threads as by starting up one like this.

the people who post how slow the car is after they have spent this 1500 on I/H/E and pullies are saying this because yes our cars are not race cars.......they are a 127hp SOHC engine with a Front wheel drive setup.....kind of tough to beat the mustangs ya know.....do your bolt ons and your throwing down down like 110 to the wheels on front wheel drive set up.....not exactly your recipe for speed.....either turbo the d17 or do a K swap and turbo it......that is the only time you will be "FAST"......and when i say fast i mean like 12-13 second quarter mile.......cause i don't care what anyone says.....if your running 12 in a civic, your car is "FAST" in my opinion........stop this 10 sec FATF bullsh@t
