anyone have a K&N filter?....
not an intake, just an air filter?
i was wanting to get something that may help increase gas mileage, would a better air filter help me in anyway? or is the honda filter good enough?
i figure that my car is made for good gas mileage, might as well try to make it better in that way instead of making it faster

I spent 1425 points to do this.

??? remember that vortex thingamabob that was advertized in infomercials?? i have a K&N on my FIPK2 SRI. i guess it actually lowers our gas mileage...i dont understand that tho- i figured it would let more air in and allow the gas burn more efficiently?? Or- maybe the added air allows for MORE gas to be burned, therefore reducing efficiency...hmmmm

I have it but I havent really noticed any increase in gas mileage but it does save you time in cleaning your filter. K&N says you calean it every 50k ot 100k miles

I'm not an engineer (yet) so this is more of a logical physics guess, but anytime you increase the speed or volume of the airflow.... your adding fuel. If that weren’t the case then every car would be turbo/ supercharged, because it would add power while increasing fuel economy. If you want better gas mileage you could always get smaller injectors. But then your car would be slower (if that’s possible). Any engineers or people that know wave flow dynamics want to comment and either back up my statement, or tell me why my logic is incorrect?
I have FIPK and the mileage has not changed. The only reason people get lower mileage is by putting their foot in the throttle more often when they first get their intakes.
Take your car on a long trip using cruse control, and I'll bet the mileage with or without the FIPK doesn't change.
As for K&N filters, the topic of this thread, the answer is YES. K&N makes a drop in pleated filter that fits in the stock air box. There are several threads on that already.

The logic would be correct if we didn't have an ECU that severely limits the air/fuel amoung to the engine. OTOH all other things being equal, a more free air flow (less pressure drop across the filter) could actually improve gas mileage.
The main thing about aftermarket intakes and filters is the free breathing aspect. I belive the tube length, diameter, location, etc is secondary.

the DROP IN FILTER. should be 36 shipped. thats how much I got mine for.
I got better mileage (about 2-3 more mpg), no improvement in performance that I can feel...
just better mileage, and a filter that will outlast the car.

I just put one in 3 weeks ago. Haven't noticed any change in gas mileage (which I keep track of religiously), and I don't drive my car hard. It does seem to breathe a bit better though, and acceleration is a bit smoother -- so maybe there is a very slight power increase (1 hp maybe ).
But the best reason to buy it is that you won't ever need another air filter for your car again. I think stock filters need replacing every 15,000 miles. K&N's just need cleaning every 50,000 miles. It will pay for itself and more over the life of your car.
And no, it's not loud at all. In fact, I can't hear a difference between the stock filter and the K&N filter.
I got it for $36 shipped from Martelbros.
