HELP!!! A-Pipe needed
OK here's the deal, I damaged the underbody of my car (no need for an explanation just yet...), and the dealership says that I need a new a-pipe.
OK, no big deal right? WRONG!!!!
From Honda, you MUST get a catalytic converter when you buy an A-Pipe, but MY catalytic converter WAS NOT DAMAGED!!!
The catalytic converter is costing my an extra $1000!!!!!!
PLEASE if someone can help me out by telling me where I can get a Honda (or even some aftermarket) A-pipe from WITHOUT a catalytic converter, I would be VERY greatful!!!
If you respond to this post, please also e-mail me here, as I do not check the boards as often as I used to:
o4sz7gykc001@sneakemail.com
I know, it looks like a strange e-mail address, but it is a service that stops me from getting too much spam and it is free. You may want to check it out yourself at sneakemail.com
well anyways thank you VERY MUCH to anyone that can solve this problem for me!!

ok maybe you didn't understand, so i need to clear up some points.
1. I don't need a new catalytic convertor, mine is not damaged.
2. I DO need a new a-pipe, it was damaged
3. I am getting my car repaired by a Honda dealership
4. The dealership is UNABLE to order me an a-pipe without also ordering a catalytic convertor
5. I would like to find an aftermarket A-PIPE that I can purchase WITHOUT the catalytic convertor.

settle down cowboy. if honda cannot get you the OEM pipe without getting the cat too then just don't let them fix it. if its being repaired by honda why not get the cat. its like 60-100 bucks. or get a header or just go get some custom pipes made. your that low on money your freaking out. if its under warranty isn't it free.

damn dude no one is telling you the whole thing i am sorry the reason you need a new cat too is because the a-pipe is welded to the cat. from the header to the back of the cat goes like this: header flex joint(down pipe<--- a-pipe (weld) cat> , so if that is damaged you have to reaplce the whole thing, or get it repaired. all you have to do is go to the dealership and if your car is uner warrenty they have to replace it as long as you hae a good reason for why its damgaged. your best bet is just go buy a new racing header and get either a high flow cat no cat or a testpipe

doh he's right there. no one is giving you an informative answer.. probably because they dont know themselves that the a-pipe is welded to the cat convertor. hence honda not being able to just replace ur a-pipe for you.
but actually, any competent auto shop should be able to fix that problem for you. like he said, if its under warranty and the fault is not urs.. honda should fix that free of charge. the asking price of 1,000 is sooo overpriced. if you really really need one, grab it here for $618 bucks.

here's a pic of whats going on:

as you can see from #4, the a-pipe(downpipe) is welded to the cat convertor.
everyone keeps on telling you to get an aftermarket header and stuff when u're not even asking for it.
my suggestion is to take it to a muffler shop if Honda refuse to do it for you.. but they shouldn't. if its not cover under warranty, or ur warranty is out.. screw the dealership. any capable muffler shop should be able to fix ur problem for ur for less than a 100. they should be able to cut the pipping, and weld on a new one and install it for less than a $100.
if u dont need a new cat dont pay 600 bucks for one. but if u really really need one, then check the link above, or contact hondawerx.com and see if he can quote you on the price of one.
The guy says he damaged the pipe. There's no warranty claim there.
If Honda won't weld a new pipe on his cat, looks like he just needs to get the car away from the dealer and have a pipe welded on his old cat.
