Is it worth replacing the EX header?
I was ththinking of getting an aftermarket header.. like DC>. but i heard the EX header and DC header are IDENTICAL in every dimnsion... and that the EX header is already built for performance... how much validity does that statement hold?

The ex header is a heck of a lot better than the ones I have seen on hondas in the past. Usually, oem headers will look like the ex with the exception it looks like someone squeeshed it.
I replaced my Oe header with the dc sports. I got it used at a deal I just couldn't pass up. I could sell it for more than I paid if I desired so I snagged it. Anyhow, the dc header is a little bit bigger than the oe one. Otherwise, yes they are identical. I definately could tell a difference in midrange power. Some mods are in your head and some aren't and this is one that wasn't. Now, it didn't snap my neck off and probably one gave a few hp but it was noticeable in the midrange. My wife could also tell w/o a shadow of a doubt.
I already had a cai and exhaust and I noticed the biggest difference when I added the header. If I was going to buy one new and I didn't want to replace my cat, I'd go with the hp header. It looks just like the oe and dc header but its tubes are WAY bigger than either one. I was shocked at how big the hp header was compared to the dc when I saw it a couple peoples' cars at a meet.
Imo, the header is the most worthwhile bolt-on out of the 3. Now, they do all work in conjunction so it's hard to say w/o running each individually and then in all the different combos one could put them on in.
Lastly, you will notice an improvement with a header and it really makes the engine bay look sharp.

I have the dc sports 4-1 header and I measured the diameter of the holes and they are 1/2" wider than the stock header. I like it
i have the DC headers and i liked it at first but now i would have to say that you should get the hp headers if any. I like them but there so small! if you get a great deal on the DC's then go for it but if not get the HP's

DX, LX, HX etc. are also 4-1... just... very very short 4-1... no smooth flow at all so...
Honda's EX headers are always different than the DX, LX, etc. in Accords, Civic, etc. the extra poonies are not just from VTEC. its from the exhaust system, from the manifold to the muffler, its usually different and more efficient.
I felt gain with my cheap ebay header.. and its tube dimensions are definitely bigger.. didn't measure it but it was obvious it was bigger.. probably er... couple mm bigger. the same goes for the collector at the end of the header...
the rpm climbed faster to 3,000... and overall power seemed to shift upward... so.. thats good. I think top end may have be gone a bit.. wasn't sure, like throwing on a CAI, it seems tougher to get to top MPH, or reach 127 mph again...
I liked mine enough to keep it even though I haven't fix it and had it left in the room for like a year.. heh... was planning to fix it and have a header wrap slap on it...
I wouldn't recommend the DC unless u can get it for a good price. they're way too expensive.

I know the ex civics come with better headers and exhaust systems but not to sure about the accords. The accords had pretty bad headers from what I recall about mine. The exhaust system was definately better. I am referring to me and my wife's '93 accords. My 00 was a v6 and I never looked and the wife now has a 97 w/v6 so.....I am mainly talking about the 4 bangers so I can't just go look..

the accord ex manifold is different too.. most of the time.. I believe.
I've seen the diagrams.. they're different... or either that I have bad memory. but generally honda makes a more efficient exhaust system for their ex trims.

Yea, I agree. I would just hate to see the exhaust manifold on an lx/dx accord. I have been trying to tell people that the ex gets a majority of its power increase from the header and exhaust since I joined this site. People either don't want to listen, don't care, or don't believe. It's too bad because the lx obviously has quite a few hp locked up in that crappy exhaust line. Heck, I bet they could get w/i a few hp of the ex with the bolt-ons and be a few hundred lbs lighter...

Persoanlly I think that the best deal would be getting either the HP, BOMZ, or OBX header if your just looking for the top section, and don't wish to spend alot of money. I know tornactive.com has the BOMZ one for around 140 shipped. Those three are pretty much the same; a little larger than the DC header. Also, I've installed two DC headers; one on my friends and one on my brother's (both 7th gen's). Yes you do gain a little bit, but it is not worth the 220 or so most places charge for the header. Just my 2 cents.

yeah I agree with you guys..
a DX will go a long way with a swap out exahust system... I'm sure it'll run just as fast as a stock ex 5spd with its 100+ lbs less.
and yeah those top sections aren't really worth it... $150 or less is as far as I'll pay... in fact $100 is the max anyone should pay for something like that.

As long as you keep the stock cat you should be legal with anything.
