Whoah.. 60 bucks? Where?

I have an EX Coupe that I installed the factory alarm in myself. I paid a $169 bucks for it from the Honda dealer. The only reason I chose the factory alarm was I dont know anyone with a shop that I can trust to install an after-market alarm in, so I did it myself. It was simple, and they can print out the instructions for you at the dealer. That and I wanted something thats plug and play for installing and known to work properly. I figured if a thief wants my car bad enough there gonna get it or whats inside anyways.

The factory alarm is weak. It has no shock sensor, no optional siren hookup, no hood sensor hookup and no over-ride switch. All it basically does is make your horn beep if someone busts open the doors or trunk.

I guess the $60 was for the 99'-00' model. My mistake, but they are $120-130 I think. Guess I'll pass on it anyway.

Its called cut the horn wire and your in. Hondas alarm use your factory horn whichis easy to get to from the front. Friend of mine had the oem alarm on his civic, they cut the horn wire and stole his whole stereo right from his drive way. If I was you, dont even waste your money on the factory alarm. Get a Cliffered or code alarm.

that is the OEM keyless entry system ussually found standard on the EX models, not an alarm

aftermarket alarm siren wire is even easier to locate then the OEM horn.. plus only the Keyless entry systems use the horn

to answer your question.. if you want a REAL alarm, you should purchase an aftermarket alarm. The dealer ussually recommends DEI (the makers of Viper, Automate, CLIFFORD, and many more).

When i purchased my Civic EX, i purchased an optional alarm system for $200 through the finance guy. The ended up selling me an Keyless Entry Add-ON alarm. Which is basicly like this... it has an alarm brain, shock sensor and siren... but it uses your keyless entry system's remote to arm and disarm. I told them that wasnt the alarm i wanted... I wanted the DEI Automate Alarm that was offered to the LX and DX models..
why?
becuase it is like this, an Automate Alarm, has multiple channels for accessories. I added the Pop Trunk Kit & DEI windows up module and had it hooked up to the Automate Alarm.

with the OEM Keyless entry controlled alarm, you wouldnt be able to Add these options at all. they do not have any extra buttons on the remote. Just the typical.. Lock, Unlock, and Panic.

My advise to you.. just get a DEI alarm.... you can add a pop trunk kit if you wish... here is the DIY.

DIY OEM Pop Trunk Latch Opener

OEM Keyless entry system.
OEM Keyless entry system controlled alarm
DEI True Alarm system

oh yeah... DEI bought out Clifford... so DEI alarms dominate almost the whole market.. you cant go wrong with DEI.

no thief would think of taking off your OEM foglamp! LOL. plus most civic owners dont have OEM foglamps. The theif would need to cut out the plastic trim to cut the horn.. how simple.!
