Help: Magnaflow Cback Exhaust

I got a Magnaflow Cat Back Exshaut System (Pic of system) and got it installed on the weekend...

NOW I need help, the Catalytic Converter is hanging low, it has only 2 - 2.5 inches of clearence from the ground... Went to my friend's place and had to go over a speed bumb and now it's hittinh when I go over it... I read somewhere that someone said "the Magnaflow is a good System, but not if you are going to lower your car" and was wondering if this person had this system and same problem AND away to fix it...

I do like the look of it (will be posting pics soon, getting developed now) and the sound, just if I can't get it higher of the ground, I might as well switch it back to stock... I think all I have to do is twist the intermediate pipe but not totally sure since I took it to a "Performance Shop" for help and they said it is as high as it can go without rattling under neath and hitting the bottom of the car (which it can't be since I compared it to a stock system in a Honda Lot and it can go higher with the space that is above it)...

Does anyone know what the clearance of the Catalytic Converter should be (from the road or the under body of the car) or if anyone had this same problem and know's how to fix it...

Any help with this is greatly apperciated...

yea I have a magnaflow catback as well
Hangs REAL low IMO, keeps on hitting. One problem you should fix is the U-clamps, make them face up instead of down and you'll save yourself from stripping the screw.
I kinda agree with whatever the "performance shop" said. My exhaust rattles a whole lot, (sounds like my suspention is dying/grinding or something)
Even though it might look like theres clearence, when the piping expands and theres air rushing through, the pipe shakes and for some reason it hits the bottom of my car. thus the rattling only happens when the car is hotter and at lower RPMs when there is most air going through sporadically... i think

Im gonna take a chance and get new hangers soon, maybe this week, hopefully it helps out with the rubbing problem and the hanging low

Hey bboysushi my magnaflow catback does the exact same thing
the rattling too!
Anyways what kind of hangers are you going to get?
I love the magnaflow though just that it hangs too low

My catalytic converter does not hang low at all its just the mid pipe
when the shop installed my catback system they put new hangers or did something and it hung up higher. They asked me if it was ok because the shop thought it was too low so now it hangs nice and snug. But the only problem I really have is that it is hung up high enough to rattle at low rpms and at idle.

But I can't really hear the rattles unless I turn the music all the way down

I hope this helps

aah, so it rattles WITH the new hangers?
That just kills what I was hoping would happen...
It's getting annoying, especially when you gotta girlfriend in your car.
and you are right, you cant hear it with music, but you can feel it

How do people with magnaflows without rattling do this???

i have magnaflow catback and i have exact same problem too.
my mid pipe is hanging real low
i didn't bother until lowered my car.
guess what!
After lowered my car (1.75 drop), i scrap 1 out of 5 speed bumbers eventhough i go really slow and careful.
i also went to couple performance shops but they say it just can't go any higher.
i'm thinking of getting custom pipe.

btw, i really love the sound.

i have a magnaflow catback with custom piping. i have everything you guys have (resonator, muffler) without the magnaflow pipe. my clearance is great, never had a problem except for the muffler that scrapes only when coming/going out of steep driveways. so yeah, custom piping is a good idea.

can you customize only the mid-pipe?
im guessing you bought the cat-back and didnt like the midpipe so you swapped it out.
or did you just buy the magnaflow exhaust w/custom piping?

Well, if your cat is hanging it is not from the cat back exhaust. My Magnaflow is a little low cause of the way the clamp was installed but everything else fit great.

i USED to have the same prob w/ the cat hanging to low....i actually didnt notice till i was walkin to my car one day and saw it sitting a few inches off the ground....i thought one of the hangers broke or something. i took it back to the shop and all the did was put it up on the lift and grabbed the midpipe and twisted. now everythings is exactly where it is supposed to be and i dont scrape at all.

Hey guys, I have a magnaflow, and a 1.75" drop.

I find that its the rear U-Bolt that scrapes a lot for me (even though I shaved off the remainder of the bolts).

I turned the front one upside down.

I find that the rubbing is actually the pipe against the front sway bar. For me, it only happens when I'm turning right and accelerating. But, I installed it too close to my bumper, so it rattles on the bumper when idling (annoying).

In all, I'm happy with the exhaust....it just hangs too darn low. Supposedly, if you weld the joints, you can suck it up a bit higher to the body. I might take it to a shop and see what they can do for me.

Good luck to all, and lets have another post like this soon It made me feel not so...uh...retarded about my speedbump problems.

I have the system as well, and the midpipe on mine hangs low but thats it. I have the U bolts right now but am going to get the midpipe welded in the spring so it wont hang that low.

I've been thinking of getting Magnaflow and was wondering if the scraping and low-hanging would be a problem for my LX. I've got an Eibach Pro Kit on my car and it dropped it a little over an inch I believe. Lemme know if you think it'll still be a problem for my ride. Thanks.

I just got mine installed today, and damn, does it friggin rattle like bitch. I think it's hitting where my Thermal was, the tranny casing. ANd it is mounted so high that the tailpipe is hitting/rubbing the bumper too. I am so mad. it's unbearable.

You all want to know what I did. I ask(actaully I told them to do it) for my money back (and called my credit card company) and told them (the company i bought it from...it wasn't magnaflow, but i did end up talking to them) that their system was crap because we shouldn't have to buy a system then spend more money on it because the Engineers at Magnaflow can't figure out how to bend pipes. Magnaflow = crap.....get something that is better like a greddy that bolts on instead of stupid cheap u bolts
